ATP Weekend Two: Explosions In The Sky to curate

You probably didn't hear it here first, but the curator for weekend two of May 2008's double-ATP affair is...

Explosions In The Sky, as was reported elsewhere on the internet yesterday, 24 hours ahead of this officially-timed announcement. The dates for your diary: May 16-18. The venue this time out: Minehead, again. The ATP vs Pitchfork weekender of May 9-11 is, of course, back at ATP's original home of Camber Sands.

The bill so far features EITS (d'uh), Dinosaur Jr, And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Broken Social Scene, Adem and Iron & Wine. More acts, of course, will be announced over the coming months.

The Texan instrumentalists - bassist Michael James pictured - also tour in January. Dates (support from Eluvium):

January
23 Brighton Concorde 2
24 Bristol Anson Rooms
26 Dublin The Village
27 Glasgow Barrowlands
29 Manchester Academy 2
30 London Astoria

Excited about the EITS line-up so far? Consistent, for sure, but does anyone really need to see Dinosaur Jr at ATP again? Of course they do, fools. Who would you like to see join the bill?

Speaking of bills, the Pitchfork ATP has seen its line-up expand: now booked are Les Savy Fav, No Age, Hot Chip, Black Angels, Shit & Shine and Meat Puppets.

Don't know what ATP is? Answers.

I should be alright

not buying tickets for this for a while, right?

i want to go to this.

arrrrgh

Dammit weekend 2 just had to be good

didnt it?

Now I am completely screwed on which one to go to...

May 16th!!

thats my birthday!

someone buy me tickets!

Sorry folks

I think ATP is running out of steam.
Even the Autechre one was more thrillingly original than this.

"even the Autechre one"...

A Guy Called Gerald, Andrea Parker, Anthony 'Shake' Shakir, Aphex Twin, Baby Ford, Bernard Parmegiani, Coil, Curtis Roads, Disjecta, Drexciyan DJ Stingray, Earth, EL-P + MURS, Farmersmanual, G-Man, Hecker, Jim O'Rourke, Kool Keith, Kut Masta Kurt, LFO, Mark Broom, Mira Calix, Ned Beckett, O.S.T., Pita, Public Enemy, Req, Russell Haswell, Sluta Leta, SND, Sonic Sum, Stasis, Strictly Kev, Sunn O))), Surgeon, The Fall, The Magic Band, Thirstin Howl III, Venetian Snares, Yasunao Tone + Hecker, Zoviet France, Skam Records Room: Alder and Elius, Bola, DJ Woody, Freeform, Gescom, Made, Meam, Mike Williamson, Mr 76IX, N M B Allstars, North Manchester Bedroom Allstars, Push Button Objects, Quinoline Yellow, Skam DJ's, Tatamax, Team Doyobi, Wevie Stonder, ZK

If the EITS lineup if 1/10 as good or diverse as that I'll be surprised.

oh my...

...i may just have to go to this.

Never been to an ATP before. Wassit like like?

wevie stonder!

there's a name i haven't seen in a LONG time.

it used to be good.

That's an amazing line up

I wish i'd gone. We'll almost certainly never get the chance to see the Magic Band or Jim O'Rourke ever again...

Skam DJs...

...nearly killed me.

Okay, I worded that badly

I sort of meant it as a compliment - in that it was adventurous and not a re-hashed Indie jumble sale.
I had a blast that year - in terms of the variety and originality of their choices this was among the most genuinely interesting ATP line-ups.
BTW - Earth didn't play, something to do with not getting Visas on time. There was a fire scare during The Magic Band set. Flavour Flav screaming "Camber Sands make some fucking noise!!!!!" was one of the all-time great ATP moments.
And Coil were beyond magical on the Sunday afternoon.
Ah, memories ...

No, it used to be great

it still can be good.

Deliberately perverse

of Autechre to put electro-acoustic music on the main stage on a Saturday night. Including a semi-lecture by an electronic music professor.
Not really a crowd pleaser. It didn't work as a whole, agreed, but in reptrospect you've gotta admire them for it. (Though it made for a hard-going Saturday night out)

Yeah right,

coz if you look at the past ATP curators such as Mogwai, Tortoise, Modest Mouse, Sonic Youth, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Mudhoney, Dinosaur Jr, they're all really alternative compared to EITS! Yeah right...

Come on now people, lets not lose sight.

the last two have been amazing

shut yo mouth

That was one of my favourite ATP's ever

It was one of the few that fulfilled the promise of ATP. It really felt like a never to be repeated 'event' and you could tell that the lineup (with the exception of the Magic Band who were clearly an ATP choice) genuinely represented the influences that came together to create Autechre. A real musical education, shame ATP hasn't had the balls to do something like this since (which is why we'll never get the Zorn ATP that people keep asking for here).

This year's ATPs have all been really strong.

I'm not massively excited about next year's so far. I can only go to the Minehead one so it'd better be good.

i really want

to go to this one, you've nabbed me right there by saying broken social scene are playing! and ...trail of dead!

now to convince my sucker friends to like better music and get us some berth and have a hella fun weekend.

Buzzard55

Spot on, well said!

i bought my ticket today!

i cant wait.
bss and eits on the same bill is going to be amazing.
im just hoping eluvium will be asked to play too.

the autecre one

was the one where i only left the challet once(brifely)all weekend.watching ray mears and 24 on my own on the sunday night was the only highlight

I was joking...

the Fans one was probably my favourite ever. The EITS one will probably be ok.

I really want to go to this!

I just hope I get some money soon.

And some chalet arrangements.
