This Saturday (2nd June) sees this year's Summer Party Festival go off like a big bang.
Held on the Nottingham University Downs, which is a large green area on the main campus, the Summer Party was started around five years ago by local promoters Firefly. It has grown to be the largest student outdoor festival in Europe.
This year, the mainstage has been booked by Hot Renault Traffic Club. The bands playing the mainstage and provisional stage times are as follows:
Just Jack 21:15
Get Cape.Wear Cape.Fly (pictured) 20:00
Captain 19:00
Crazy P 18:00
The Little Ones 17:15
The Films 16:30
The Smears (featuring The Glitter Kittens Burlesque dancers) 15:45
Kubichek! 15:00
Gravity Crisis 14:15
We Start Fires 13:30
Look See Proof 12:45
Primal Scream bassist Mani will also be DJing between the bands and compering the event.
There be a dance tent, too, hosted by Firefly and featuring Fergie (Radio 1), Annie Mac (Radio 1), Aquasky & MC Spyder and Caged Baby plus guests.
In addition, there will also be a drum and bass tent hosted by Detonate, featuring Friction, Fabio, Transit Mafia plus guests.
Daytime entertainment will include a bucking bronco, surfing simulator and a velcro wall. For online tickets and more information, click HERE.
Oh, and remember, this event is open to students only...

Also remember that you have to buy
drinks tokens beforehand. And that its fucking expensive. And that venn is on the same weekend. And that as of yesterday i got a note through my door that says the SU has the right to evict me from my room during the summer party.
I hate them, the shits. Fortunately, im at venn. WHooopeeee!
DOM!
CLOSE YR FUCKIN HTML TAGS. </i>
END ITALICS
No, sorry...
...that was me.
Sorry.
Shut the fuck up
or I'll make you go and watch The Fakers.
oh
if it was you it doesn't matter in the slightest
don't you mean
The fucking Fakers?
Put your tongue away
Mr Dowling, you don't know where that backside has been
Oh, and theres a free
festival on the 6th in the same spot thats going to be more fun. Jugglers and shit.
Really?
Who's on the bill for that?
And there's High Society's all dayer....
'HIGH SUMMER' on the 7th June which promises to be much more interesting, with the likes of SJ Esau, I Love Sarah and about 8 others lined up...
www.highsoc.com for more details or www.myspace.com/highsoc
Oh, and this isn't inclusive for students, everyone is welcome...come, come, free food for the early arrivers. (3pm onwards)
meh
planning on sitting outside again like i did last year, you can drink your own alcohol, and still hear and see the bands on the main stage. a lot cheaper!!
The Smears (featuring The Glitter Kittens Burlesque dancers)
*mind boggles*
^this will be mighty godly
Chuff's band, Cats in paris, are playing.
Oh and Lonely ghosts vs tumbledown estate!
The free one has some emo-shoegaze from dragonflies draw flame, as well as a bunch of ska bands, and the university orchestra... so could be crap or good...but its free! you cant lose! only stipulation is that you drink OUTSIDE the demarcated area. again, you dont have to be a student to come!
well
the three years I was at Nottingham Uni, this was the most horrendous, vile, tasteless, generally shite event i had ever set my poor eyes on.
I remember one year, the Band Society in protest held its own outdoor party a bit across campus, until security closed it down for making too much noise. That was funny, but it had clouded over, and my old band had played already, so I didn't mind much.
Doesn't look so bad this year, mind.
yeah, but youll have to share those bands with all those
ISIS goers. can you do it? CAN YOU?
Sounds on the downs and High Summer are the way to go my friend.
meh
it makes a damn awful mess! and also made me feel like was on a ferry in my halls room last year! Just say no kids!
In fact, take this down
please.
Its just another reason to hate our SU. Who are the most incompetent bunch of....grrrr. You just DONT demand that people who have paid good money to use their rooms be evicted in an effort to make them go to some crap party that you have been plugging in an offensive way since day one, and then proceed to trash the nicest patch of grassland in the whole of nottingham and not clean it up, YEAH?
Is this really that bad?
The line-up looks OK, if nothing else, but yeah, if it's your SU then I guess you shouldn't have to pay through the nose as it were. And what's with the drinks tokens? Does this mean you can't take anything on site?
yeah, you cant take drinks through the door apparently
they are 'no cash' bars. For security reasons. apparently. Its not so much the line up i take offence to its more the fact that theres going to be broken glass all over the place and student volunteers sign up for the t-shirt and to look cool. Most SU events are fairly soulless full stop.
student volunteers who
dont clean up properly afterwards, despite the fact they are supposed to.
Am I right in saying there seems to be
a divide in your SU at present?
If by divide
you mean 'tory wankers' then yes. Basically the ethical movements try to provide alternatives that the SU exec doesnt like. They hate people doing stuff 'unoficially'. If you put music on on campus, youre supposed to use TEC, who are the Student 'roadies'. They get arsey and charge too much for everything because it has all the right certificates. Its mostly pedantic beaurocracy and small penises vs students who actually want to get stuff DONE.
Aye
Nothing more depressing for a young idealist student such as myself to arrive at said uni and find the Young Conservative stall the busiest at fresher's fair.
Also, what the hell is up with the hall eviction thing? The nerve. One good thing about BGP is we've got room until end of July, but still.
THE
SMEARS ARE WELL GOOD AND WELL GRUNGE. the idea of burlesque at the same time is scary.
Yeah this
year they said they wanted to fence everything off to stop anyone getting free art. Fucking thiefs.
About 200 people are said to be heading down to the park in Lenton instead to get pissed on cheap white cider, if Facebook is to be believed.
I remember in one of this things first years...
...they got david sneddon (won the first fame academy) who they then cancelled. Or it might have been him that bailed. Anyway, no-one cared. Howver, Lokii and Phoenix Down (i think) played - ace-a-rama! Didn't realise it had gotten so big now?!
I'd heard about that
as my missus works at Nottingham Uni in the Hallward library.
That year
also featured the Bluetones and Jimmy Saville, if my memory serves me correctly. Crazy times...
This seems
a definite improvement on the Summer Party's of old.
In my last year I think we had Lemar and David Sneddon as the 'big acts' and some horrible DJ, probably Spoony.
It's always been ridiculously expensive.
Yes!
Lokii and Phoenix Down did play - that was the URN tent that Martin Grech headlined. i remember because i booked them all!
Anyway, as said earlier, why waste money on this when HIgh Summer is on and cheaper

AHHHH
I remember Martin Grech Playing.
Also the Bluetones played one year and I saw them backstage and got mega exxcited
aaah
the 'i want to spend my 20 pounds on booze' group.
It IS pretty impressive
I love sarah supported battles.
A while back, someone went round and hid a load of compilation CDs
in books in the hallward, which was nice.
No sittiing on the downs apparently
The fascists have said they are going to move anyone on just sitting on the downs, another reason to not go in principle. This years line up does look better than the first one I went to that had toploader playing, who buggered off after 2 songs because it was raining and left us there to get pissed when through with no mention of whether there would be any more. The cooper temple clause year was good though. Is trevor Nelson playing, it wouldn't be party on the downs if he didn't.
I'll tell her to
look out for them!
High Society
The High Society is awesome...its got pedigree.
hmm
if i still lived in nottingham, i'd think about going, but i would take a crossbow or something...just to ceremonially take out some Isis goers.
aye, that's true
that's the really distburing thing i found about Nottingham Uni: so very very many right-wing idiots. I thought young people were supposed to be open-minded and liberal? What's the Churchill quote? "If you're a conservative at 20 you've got no heart, and if you're a liberal at 50 you've got no brain". There you go.
Lol
'pedigree'
what?! no sitting on the downs?
fine, i might as well go to work. which means no uni organised fun for me, not even going to my graduation ball (40 a ticket, for the 'privilege' of seeing vernon kay?? no thanks)
demo on friday night instead i reckon.
Go to high summer!
4 pounds advance! Crazy acts!
Come on...
guys...i dont see why uv got such a big problem with the summer party.
btw, its not organised by the SU, its organised by students for students.
A nd its £20 to cover the costs of the event, its non profit.
people are really trying their best and trying to please everyone. give them a break.
the partys gona be awesome.
SU
students union? Students for students Yeah?
I think youre thinking of sounds on the downs my friend. Last time i checked there was sponsorship going up across the downs. Hundreds of big burly blokes and a HUGE caterpillar generator parked outside my hall and making me late for exams. Yeah, all those guys in black with beards are 'students' arent they?
Its done to get drunk. That is not 'fun'. Last i saw all the students in blue were sitting on their arses with bottles of white cider.
I was on your Campus
this morning. Getting a haircut. Sad but true fact.
I'm actually afraid to
get a haircut on our campus.
...
I did once after trying to cut my own when drunk, using a cd as a mirror. When i went in the union hairdresser for an emergency cut, he said - "oooh, has your friend had a go at this" to which I replied, "...err, yeah- he's an idiot!". The hairdresser proceeded to cut off neearly all my hair.
hmm
no ISIS people.
rather beautiful reps though.
kubichek! and the smears were IMMENSE
Dude...
I can hear it from Stapleford...
I wish I went Notts Uni!
