Tesco to cease singles sales
Leading supermarket Tesco is to stop selling CD singles in its stores.
So what, you might think. But insiders say it's another nail in the physical single format's coffin, as currently Tesco sales amount to some 20% of all singles sales in the UK.
On the plus side, the move by Tesco should go some way to stopping novelty hits entering the top of the charts. Sadly, this doesn't cover Mika.
The chain will stop stocking singles from March 5, although it adds that one-off special event singles will be stocked on an ad-hoc basis. Charity releases and the like, then. Like that Girls Aloud/Sugababes cover of 'Walk This Way'. Check it out, here. It has divided the office and no mistake.

Actually moving AWAY from a market area?
i thought their aim was global domination of every single market by 2020....
good news. itll stop impulse buying, which'll help. and waste less plastic on single packaging.

I used to love nipping in there to buy a loaf of white sliced and the latest Kitsune ten inch...

Everyone knows Aldi are boss for the music buying.
That sugarbabes/girls aloud thing is pretty horrific
HMV in Reading
have also taken down the singles off the wall, they keep a selection of about 20 in a small rack at the back of the store all dusty, outnumbered by vinyl for the first time in generations.
singles will probably live on, but only in an mp3/mail order/limited-edition-selling-at-gigs kinda way..
Never mind single sales
It's ALBUM sales they shouldn't be doing.
got to love tescos
love the cakes...
cakes are
even better after 8pm when they go for 20p hmmmmmm
I could have sworn
that they only started selling them last year or so? That's the case for the Bangor Tesco at any rate.
bf
an *interesting* geek fact is that Tescos used to sell 'deleted' singles back in the sixties.
I've found some really rare reggae stuff still with Tesco 5p stickers on the sleeves.
Oh to have a time machine
Oh my
the 'Walk This Way' single is appalling. How can opinion ever be divided? Use it to open international peace conferences on a spirit of unity!
Tesco is evil!!!
It's a bit like the Nazi's only with more freaky dudes with moustaches!

on a related note
I bought the new Bloc Party album in Tesco for less than seven quid this morning. I feel WELL guilty.
Not bad album, though!
Yes you are.
The Waitrose in our town last less than a year, before moving to Formby where they're a bit posher. Or so they'd like to think.
