CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

On the front page of London's Metro newspaper this morning, I was told in big, uncompromising letters that cannabis will give me a heart attack. In reply, here's a slightly more palatable idea - CHARTATTACK.

Popular demand has dicatated that DiS' regular chart rundowns simply MUST return, so here is one with from your friendly journofrog, ROFL Harris.

Sitting more than pretty at the top for another week is The Pussycat Dolls' 'Don't Cha', hell bent on reminding me that they are all hotter than my girlfriend - well here's a fact for you, pussycats, I'M FREAKIN' SINGLE. The highest new entry this week comes swingin' in from Kanye West, his insanely danceable but maybe a little repetitive 'Gold Digger' doesn't even come close to being the best track on his new LP, but serves as an ace introduction.

Scotland's stripy insaniacs Franz Ferdinand penetrate the juicier holes of this week's countdown at number four, whilst the rest of the top ten new entries include Katie Melua and DiS scribe Raziq Rauf's artiste of the moment, Kelly Clarkson.

As we slip down the snake of sales and discontent, we find our left-of-field musings represented at 11 (Stereophonics), 20 (Hard-Fi), 42 (Ladytron), 46 (Mew) and the astoundingly intelligent Bloodhound Gang one behind at 47. It must of course be mentioned that rock LEGENDS Bullet for My Valentine are putting a face in at 37, with their cheery summer anthem 'Suffocating Under Words of Sorrow'.

Over in the profitable and mildly sunnier Land of the Albums, David Gray maintains his grip at the top spot with his latest attempt to rock the coffee table Life in Slow Motion keeping highest new entry Bon Jovi from the top slot. Top ten new entries also come flying in from hot new teen sensation Barbara Streisand, James Blunt covers-band Ian Brown and the dark hip-hop of Daniel O'Donnell. Daniel's record is called Teenage Dreams and contrary to initial press releases, does not come with a voucher for a free packet of Kleenex.

It must be noted that Green Day's Dookie re-enters at number 54, which is somewhat strange and the quite wonderful Cripple Crow by Devendra Banhart 'drops' number 69. Ha, 69.

The new Bon Jovi song is aural rape.

"Top ten new entries also come flying in from hot new teen sensation Barbara Streisand, James Blunt covers-band Ian Brown and the dark hip-hop of Daniel O'Donnell"

COMEDY GOLD!

CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

Mew at 46? No justice. I see Woolworths couldn't be bothered to stock the new album, so it's time for a trip into town...

CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

there's sarcasm in that there article? i can't spot it...

kelly clarkson is ace.

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

It's growing on me, little by little.

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

Dookie back in the cahrts?! Proves class never dies!

CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

Burning question: Why-Oh-Why does Kanye West face the wrong way in the video for that track?

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

maybe he has poor co-ordination skills?

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

because you touch yourself at night

CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

Ladytron dont deserve being in the Top 40 - sub Curve covering Garbage remixes of Beloved leftovers - what happend to them - ah yes they got a major record deal

Fact: Helena from Ladytron used to call me Dr Pop at university - I only mention that as I am bored and want to sound trendy for very slightly knowing a 'pop star' about 7 years ago who acutally isn't that 'popular' - nice people though, the 'tron

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

I can't wait for the new ladytron album.

I'm actually going to explode with joy when I get it.

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

it's not comedy gold
it's just wrong

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

HMV been flogging it off for £3 or something, haven't they?

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

And also that HMV's sales have considerable influence on the album charts : p As illustrated by that Fatboy Slim album which used to also go back into the top 10 every time HMV slashed its price to 2 quid...

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

because he says 'nigger' in the chorus. and you're not even allowed to see him mouth it.
true story.

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

Dr. Pop? Are you sure it wasn't "Pops", after your curmudgeonly ways?

Ah...I'm trying to imagine a young, eager prole, lapping up the new bands in a time before everyone reminded you of everyone. ;-)

If I can maybe I can remember me being like that too. :-/

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

Hurrah indeed.

Nothing about the awful chart placing of the (not really) new Duke Spirit single.
Anyone thinks it will means the end for them...

CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

What the hell happened to boy kill boy?

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

MORE importantly, what happened to The Noise Next Door??!?!

CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

Did nobody pick up on this horror:

"we find our left-of-field musings represented at 11 (Stereophonics)"

We? Our? Left-of-field? Stereophonics are none of these. Horrible cock-rock is what they are and about as MOR as they come.

Yuck.

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

Hmmm, sarcasm is lost on the young?

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

it is a bit of a sarcasm overload though, even for me.

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

Ahhhhh... makes sense, a bit. Explains the indecipherable radio edit too

TA.

From PopBitch (www.popbitch.com):-

"This week's number one, Don't Cha, was written and originally performed by US rap artist Tori Alamaze. The track came out on promo on Universal earlier this year, but Tori was quietly shelved when the label decided she wasn't cute enough. Enter LA dance troupe Pussycat Dolls, who have been trying to make it in the music industry for years despite the fact that only one can sing.

So, while the Dolls tour the world, next week Tori plays Joey Harrison's surfclub, Ortley Beach, New Jersey. But, at least she's probably making a fortune in royalties."

Of course I'm sure you're all shocked & appalled that they didn't write it themselves ;)

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

I'd heard something like that too. It answers a lot of questions. Like why they're billed as a group when there's only one lead singer. And why there have to be six of them when in that song they exercise a strict 2-3 part vocal harmony limit - what are the other 3 members doing?

Re: CHARTATTACKKKKKK: Top 75 rundown

Ass-dancin'.
