RFTC RIP

San Diego's favourite sons, Rocket From The Crypt, are splitting up. I know what you're thinking; "First Hot Snakes, now this? This is a wind-up, surely?" Guess again, meatball. Sadly, this is on the level.

In a message on RFTC's website, Swami Impresario and the band's frontman, John Reis (aka Speedo) had this to say:

"On Halloween night in San Diego, Rocket from the Crypt will be playing our farewell show. After 16 years of scars and ear damage all in the name of spreading goodwill and the Rock N Roll doctrine, we will take the stage for the last time on our favorite day of the year.

"We know that it is very difficult for those around the world to be with us for this celebration, but we invite all that have been a part of this awesome ride to come out one more time and give it up for the band."

Details on a number of different ticket-buying deals are featured on the RFTC website. Some of these include a hotel room as part of the purchase. But unless you're in the States, or happen to have a flippin' great wodge of cash in the bank that you've been saving up for the end of an era in punk rock, you're stuffed.

And that sadly, is that.

RFTC RIP

Didn't realise they were still around.

RFTC RIP

this sucks.

and it justs rubs in the loss of hot snakes.

Re: RFTC RIP

What band were you in? Were you Sammo Hung? I think that's who I saw supporting them then, they were good as I remember!

RFTC RIP

I own a RFTC album, it sucks. But at least i gave them a chance.

Re: RFTC RIP

You kiss your mother with that mouth?!

RFTC RIP

they were just a Melody Maker band who had a really irritating hit and nicked their name from Pere Ubu's first creation - I havent given this band a single thought since about january 1996 apart from whenI have to dip hot wax in my ears at indie discos when they drag out On A Rope, holding back the tears just knowing that the crud of a dj will follow it up with Killing In The Name Of. For the 13th year running.

Re: RFTC RIP

fucking idiots. show some respect, RFTC = greatest live band of all time. RIP indeed.

Re: RFTC RIP

I do try.

But you know, i tried to like them...i just...couldn't. They did nothing for me at all.

RFTC RIP

Someone's not seen them live or heard anything other than On A Rope at naff discos, thanks for that contribution then.

RFTC RIP

RFTC is one of the few bands who I love, but that I never had the fortune to see live. I'm really gutted about this.

And while you could debate this and discuss that in terms of taste and perception, and whether certain musical entities move you, one thing remains an irrefutable truth; if you don't like RFTC you can go straight to hell.

Re: RFTC RIP

damn straight, I was lucky enough to get to see them a fair few times, 1X LA2, 1X Astoria, 2X Garage, 1X Glastonbury, 1X forum, 1X sheperds Bush empire, 1X brighton concorde, 1X electric ballroom, 3X Reading....sure there are more as well but can't remember...

Re: RFTC RIP

They were amazing when I saw them at Leeds. The freezing bit, the hugging the person next to you...and most of all the songs. They played the first three from Scream Dracula Scream in order! Heavenly.
