The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

The Sun has reported that Bloc Party and Kaiser Chiefs might get it together for a little festive fun this Christmas, recording a seasonal single to rival Sir Cliff.

The song? 'All I Want For Christmas Is You', apparently. Kaiser fella Nick Baines said: "We talked about doing a festive single with Bloc Party, like a sort of limited-edition cover."

And yes, today's news is brought to you in association with Bill Murray movies.

The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kasiers to get festive?

I tink this story has been made up purely to irritate me - however I think it might just be true

The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kasiers to get festive?

The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

I don't believe this'll happen for a moment. But if it does, Gary Jules will probably find another Tears For Fears song to cover...

The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

can't see how this can be good. if it was britpop it would be like pulp doing a collaboration with meanswear.

The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

Scrooged was a friggin awesome film man.

"Dad loves Beaver!"

The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaiser

Kele, don't do it! Retain your credibility and let the Kaiser Chiefs murder their career!

Re: The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

^^ ha ha, they're great.

Modern Sleigh?

Born To Be Prancer?

The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

Bloc Party...Kaiser Chiefs
They're practically opposites. This should be, er, interesting.

The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

who gives a shit about credibility? people who are more concerned with being trendy than liking music, methinks.

The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

There should be a whole Xmas album full of top festive covers by the 'great and good of modern music'. Solstice Bells, Rock and Roll Christmas, Mistletoe and Wine... imagine the possibilities!

Re: The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Ka

"you gotta party hardy, marty!"

best christmas movie ever. FACT.

Re: The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

XFM did a charity one a few years back - a mixture of covers and bands doing original Christmas-themed songs..

The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaiser

I think this thread should be based more on 'Scrooged' anyway.

I guarantee they're like this every day of the year.

Re: The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

And very good it was too.

This, on the other hand, is a shit idea. One I can see the Kaiser Chiefs going along with but Bloc Party? I'll eat my trilby if that happens.

The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

Wasnt it only a few months ago when DiS was urging everyone to buy Silent Alarm?

Isnt the title a big cruel?

Everyone else may have gone off them since they have become popular over the last few months, but I still think they are wonderful.

Re: The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

I totally second this.
Dis complains about Nme and their rock fashions but this very site was championing and creaming it over Bloc Party before their album broke and now you slag them off.
This site gets worse and worse.

The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

Next Dis will have it's own record label and adverts for hmv on the site. ;)

The Industry is fickle, and different writers have different opinions you'll find. I don't really care about any of this, im off. haha

The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaiser

Yeah, I remember one of your writers even telling us about how they were listening and recommending Bloc Party many months, or possibly even a year, before they became popular.

And now that they're popular, you slag them off. Why...because everyone else is?

The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

This site has become a joke. Kaiser Chiefs were born here! Bloc Party first championed here - at the hint of success you turn your backs and rant on about CREDABILITY...what the fuck? The songs on both Employment and Silent Alarm are the same ones you championed a few months ago. Shame on you lot. Both bands are great

Re: The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

Oh yeah....
I totally forgot that Drowned in Sound were championing the Kaiser Chiefs and "discovered" them.
That makes this whole article even more of a joke. So now that those two bands are popular, you decide to slag them off?? cause these 2 bands arent as cool/underground/scene any more?? Whatever happened about liking bands for their music and not whether its cool/hip to like them??? As gymmy said, they are the EXACT same songs that you were raving about when they first came to our attention. Now that the NME embraces these bands you feel that is is uncool to still like them??
that is pathetic!!

Re: The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

"Isnt the title a big cruel?

The title's taken from the Bill Murray Christmas comedy 'Scrooged', a moder-day (well, 1980s) take on the Christmas Carol story penned by Dickens.

It's in no way intended to be a comment on the career of or DiS writers' opinions on either Kaiser Chiefs or Bloc Party.

Re: The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

"That makes this whole article even more of a joke. So now that those two bands are popular, you decide to slag them off??"

What are you talking about? Where does the above slag either band off?

Re: The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

Sorry i shouldnt have said article, but i just mean the site in general.
there are one or 2 editors that champion them but on the whole the site has gone from a very positive and receptive stance for the bands to a very negative stance where I often see these bands get the piss taken out them on here.
I appreciate that this site is trying to be anti-NME but at the same time you are making yourselfs seem worse by the way that you get tired of and often mock a band once they have broken.
Just imo that the site has gone a little downhill from a couple of years ago when i first discovered it.

Re: The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

Okay...

I'm not sure that either of the bands have been subjected to any piss-taking at the hands of a writer (note: there is but one editor), but if they have then that's the opinion of that writer alone. DiS has no strict editorial policy on bands - individuals can think what they want and write what they want, within reason, be it to champion or condemn.

DiS is not anti-NME, either; this is a common misconception probably born from the site's dogged reluctance to follow the pack when it comes to flash in the pan acts not worth their column inches. What DiS does, or strives to do, is to tell YOU about great new bands, be they from the UK or Greenland, or pop or rock, or stylishly dressed or ragged and rough about every edge. Music is just that - I'd like to think that nine times out of ten DiS ONLY concentrates on that rather than what hat Popstar X is wearing this week, or who Junkie P decked in some north London boozer last night.

Of course, there is the occasional lapse. We've got to entertain ourselves, too. DiS doesn't try to be sensationalist, nor to patronise you by recycling a million press releases into a 'review'; it is honest, the writers are passionate and the steady increase in readers is totally reflective of this.

Which brings me to your final point about the site going downhill: you are the first person I have heard say this. I'd like to know why you think this, as - as far as I can see - the site is only going from strength to strength. The writing team is fantastic, the music being covered is incredibly diverse and non genre-specific, and the powers that be are now in a position to make it even bigger and better.

This is a great resource for finding out about new bands and reading honest opinions on the bands making the news elsewhere. I really don't think there's a single UK site that is comparable.

Re: The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

ok i really appreciate your reply.

I suppose you are right, its just whe i first joined the site it seemed to be all about the music and it was great. I could come to the site and put my views across without being slagged off and being made fun of. If i liked a band that wasnt as cool and hip then thatd be fine. Its getting to the stage here that if i/or others say they like Bloc Party/Kaiser CHiefs etc they become the subject of much ridicule.

I appreciate that this is more down to other people reading the site and not so much the writers but some of the articles featured make comments and jibes that further fuel this(sean for example). Some writers (raz, crablin, alcxx, yourself) i totally trust your reviews and i have actually went out and bought albums on the strength of your reviews and not been disappointed. Others are complete wank (sean, shady adie) that poke fun at bands and i just dont agree with that and the site never used to be about that.

It used to be the first site id look at when i came online. It was a great source of musical reviews, live music listings etc and its helped me to discover some truely great bands. Now not so much.

Re: The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

i totally third this!
will someone at Dis make up your mind whether to completely support an excelent band, or to not like em and therefore not recomend that everyone buys the record..... please!

The Night The Reindeer Died: Bloc Party and Kaisers to get festive?

I can't really see how this article slags off either band, nor how suggesting that a Christmas single is not such a good idea amounts to taking the piss. Of course there are people that don't like these bands reading this site, and maybe the number of these has increased recently, but then, as everyone keeps pointing out but not connecting, this is probably because they have become better known. As a band becomes more popular then the number of people that dislike them is bound to increase along with the number that do.
And the fact that this site seems NME-hating is because the people that come here are generally those that dislike industry hype and people that jump on the bandwagon of bands such as BP and KC - just as a certain magazine does. People have made the same comments about the site's approach to Keane, and even complained that the site used to hate Bright Eyes and now loves him, but they always seem to forget that tastes and writers and the industry and music scene change constantly, and it would be stupid to expect a great music site with a growing fanbase, such as this, not to reflect that.
