The Future Soundtrack for America, an anti-George Bush LP is to be released this summer in an attempt to raise funds for progressive groups who advocate political change...

The record will be released on American Independence Day, July 4th 2005 on Barsuk Records.

The record will feature exclusive & rare tracks from: Blink 182, Bright Eyes, David Byrne, Clem Snide, Laura Cantrell, Death Cab for Cutie, Elliott Smith, Mike Doughty, The Flaming Lips, Fountains of Wayne, Jimmy Eat World, Ben Kweller, The Long Winters, Nada Surf, Old 97’s, OK Go, R.E.M., Sleater-Kinney, Tom Waits, They Might Be Giants and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

The record was independently conceived by They Might Be Giants' John Flansburgh and McSweeney Press’ Dave Eggers and then assembled by a small group of music industry volunteers and literary figures, the CD and companion book The Future Dictionary of America feature new, exclusive and rare recordings from over 20 of today's best recording artists and original contributions from almost 200 writers including T.C. Boyle, Michael Chabon, Billy Collins, Michael Cunningham, Jeffrey Eugenides, Jonathan Franzen, Stephen King, Joyce Carol Oates, Art Spiegelman, Kurt Vonnegut and Wendy Wasserstein.
