The White Stripes' new album is to be called Get Behind Me Satan. Insert your own joke below.
It was recorded in less than two weeks ('though, be fair, it's hardly rocket science stuff) and will hit stores on June 6th. A single, 'Blue Orchid', is released on May 30th.
Plans to tour the States after the band's Glastonbury appearance have been made clear by Jack White, but there are, as yet, no futher UK dates lined up.

The White Stripes rear-ended by the Devil
Sorry, I'm new. Is it OK to like The White Stripes in 2005?
Rant
They should stick to being a studio band until they can do a good show in a large venue. Meg is rubbish live. She might as well be onstage reading a newspaper. No energy, no performance, no contribution whatsoever. Maybe she could play offstage and read the paper at the same time and she wouldn't get so bored?? Maybe he could get the Winnebago Deal drummer in?
Re: Rant
heh, maybe.
I like the white stripes, and am really looking forward to Glasto, and can see Jack joining a new band after this album and them being a much more promising live act.

Re: Rant
That's just Meg being Meg. I love Meg.
Re: Rant
Isn't the rubbishness part of the charm?
Re: Rant
nothing charming about being rubbish.
most overrated band of the past five years. no contest.

As basic as they may be, I love the White Stripes, and I honestly think they are one of the best live bands around, though I didn't think they were great at Reading last year.
However, I don't think Jack White is a great guitarist, at least in the traditional sense.
But he's not bad, they're definitely a band a lot greater than the sum of their parts.

Re: The White Stripes rear-ended by the Devil
I was fortunate to see them in a small venue the first time I saw them and that's definently the type of place to see a band like this.
A lot of snobbery and jealousy rears its head whenever they're mentioned. Don't worry, just go and listen to whoever you've been told to like now.

Re: The White Stripes rear-ended by the Devil
they're still a poor man's Royal Trux though.
Re: The White Stripes rear-ended by the Devil
Hahahaha...
Seriously, though, no, they're not.

Exactly. I find it hilarious when so called alternative music fans bang on about technique and standards of musicianship. Passion, talent and wit will rise above all the muso dullards always. The sheer brutal simplicity of the White Stripes makes them transcend such small mindedness. Let yourself be free, people- go and bang the drums anyway you want to and ignore the poisonous critical thoughts that you have picked up from hanging around with too many miserable c*nts!
Re: The White Stripes rear-ended by the Devil
alright then, a poor man's Blues Explosion.
i don't mind them, honestly, but they're just reading old ground and not as well as those before them.
good videos though.

Jack White is a fucking great guitarist in the same way that Steve Jones was with the Pistols. To be able to play brutally is a decided skill, to play something simple yet make it sound more than it actually is. White's also a pretty good slide player and almost certainly will do some wibblywarbly solo acoustic stuff one day, thus cementing his place as the new John Mayer (ho ho).

Hey, i like the Stripes.. alot! I don't give two frigs if others don't!! I does not stop me enjoying them! Surely thats the point ain't it?
I've seen em twice and they were amazing. Fair point about Meg though!
Oooer... I think i smell a, erm... RAT!!!

Much as I know saying "I never liked them anyway" will sound fake and phoney, I didn't like 'em. Still don't.
The White Stripes rear-ended by the Devil
they're pretty good probably only got about ten truly great tracks out of all their stuff though, still pretty fun to listen to sometimes

"most overrated band of the past five years. no contest."
Interesting. For me, the Stripes are one of the few "it" bands of recent years that actually lived up to the hype. Jack White has such a unique vision - people mistake his obsessive hero-worship for a lack of original ideas, but his knack with an evoactive melody is leagues ahead of his peers. I can't describe it. He just "gets" atmosphere, and articulating weird emotions. Might listen to "White Blood Cells" now...

Re: The White Stripes rear-ended by the Devil
They're a good band.
They suffer from playing venues that are too big for the minimal style.
But they write good songs I think.
Hardly groundbreaking, but good.

All the albums before 'Elephant' = Great
'Elephant' = Dissapointing. I just could not get into it.
Their cover of 'Jolene' = Fantastic.
'Get Behind Me Satan' = Well...We'll have to wait and see eh people?

I thought Jack was going to be a preacher if he didn't become a rock star.
Re: The White Stripes rear-ended by the Devil
He certainly is brilliant, and a great vocalist, but appears to strain under the weight of carrying the live show singlehanded. If Jack stops playing then so does the entertainment.
