Some crazy parents (they've got to be parents... and crazy... right?) have made lullabye albums of established rock artists' material available... so that you can send your child off to the Land of Nod with tunes by Tool, The Cure and Metallica bouncing about their ickle brains.

The latest in the range, a Nirvana tribute affair, features gentle interpretations of the likes of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and 'Heart Shaped Box'. It is, frankly, deranged. And oddly brilliant.

The website/label in question is Babyrockrecords.com, and alongside the Nirvana effort are collections of songs by Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin and the Pixies. They describe their Nirvana compilation thusly:

You know it. With the lights out, it’s less dangerous. These lullaby renditions of Nirvana’s best-loved songs turn the volume way down, while turning up the dreaminess of their pop hooks. In many ways, this album echoes the simple pleasures and innocence of infancy and childhood. Childish tra-la-la’s tempered the distortion of Nirvana’s own songs. Chimes, glockenspiels and other gentle instruments temper Nirvana’s wild spirit for your little one. 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'? Smells like nap time.

Surely a Coldplay one would be utterly pointless?

"Baa Baa Black Sheep" is more rocking than anything they've ever recorded.

I'm definitely buying these for my nieces and goddaughter. Not my own kids: they'll get the real thing!

as father of two and therefore and absolute expert on this subject, i can tell you that you shoudlnt buy this, and just play the original records to your baby good and loud, no matter how much your in-laws think its wierd.

firstly it gives them an immediate appreciation for the finer things in life, secondly it gives them something to listen to whilst they stare at the revolving cows above thier heads (babies = stoners) and thirdly, it gets them used to loud noise, so when you have the tv on loud or have a party they dont give a shit.
