Trail Of Dead: referencing their critics with new album title?
The new album from ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - the follow-up to last year's Worlds Apart - is to be called So Divided.
Upon hearing this news, DiS's Colin Roberts was heard to remark: "Is that a comment on the reviews they received for their last album?" That might be slightly paraphrased, but whatever: Worlds Apart was, of course, rather less-than-favourably reviewed by some critics (DiS rather sat on the fence, here).
So Divided is to be released on November 13. Among its eleven tracks is a cover of Guided By Voices' 'Gold Heart Mountain Top Queen Directory'. The full tracklisting is as follows...
'Intro: A Song of Fire and Wine'
'Stand in Silence'
'Wasted State of Mind'
'Naked Sun'
'Gold Heart Mountain Top Queen Directory'
'So Divided'
'Life'
'Eight Day Hell'
'Witches Web'
'Segue: In the Realms of the Unreal'
'Sunken Dreams'

I really really
can't wait. It will be ace.
i fear
they may mess up one of my favourite gbv songs. but hopefully if its not too bad it'll at least turn more people onto them.
Interesting to see..
...how this will go down. I think it may well be a reference to their critics, particularly pitchfork and the NME, who Trail of Dead have always had a love/hate relationship with. From song titles alone, it seems to be a touch more abstract than 'World's Apart', which sounds promising because TOD are always at their best when they're not trying to hard lyrically. Also I notice they've done a new version of 'Witches Web' for the album, which is a very beautiful song. Reasons to be cheerful.
I sorta
hope they're a wee bit more angry this time round. I read on Billboard that some stuff is like Source Tags, but then Conrad's saying that it's very similar to World's Apart. I have faith that I'll at least enjoy it.
If only Interscope gave us (the punters) a little flavour of the album, like maybe a single or even a song on their Myspace page, but no, they continue to sit on this band they haven't a clue how to market or know what to do with and then blame them for poor album sales.
everything that...
trail of dead release always make me dead happy. my personal favourite is their self titled effort. and conrad keely is fucking cool, although a little chunky these days.
The Only worthwhile song on Worlds Apart
was - quite obviously - Will You Smile Again? Source Tags and Codes was astounding though. Caterwaul's alright in a B-Side sort've way
It's yum.
It's very grand, very big. Like a rather melodramatic version of the sparsely-arranged original.
Polynesian drums, mmm.
...
Despite what a lot of people think, Worlds Apart is a brillant album, and I've been a huge Trail of Dead fan since Madonna was first released.
Balls
It was bloody rubbish
Im glad
that i can say they came from Austin TX and that im from ATX
Your mum
... was bloody rubbish last night.
In all seriousness, though, I like World's Apart but the title song is horrible.
i love Trail Of Dead
and just got this album. it's somewhere in between ST&C and Worlds Apart. not much anger on there again though. their anger went kaput.
leaked?
i have been looking for this for a while. is it around? i think its going to be really good.
