Arab Strap have announced that they are to split up after ten years of performing and recording.
The duo - Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton - are to focus on their blossoming solo careers: Middleton released his second long-player, Into The Woods, to great acclaim last year, while Moffat's Lucky Pierre material has been equally praised.
One further Arab Strap album is forthcoming, though: Ten Years Of Tears, a collection of b-sides and rare tracks, will be released on October 23.

and it's made me suddenly tearful. Even though I was expecting it. Oh dear, how sad.
Ah well, solo shows to look forward to...
WHY THE FUCK
did I leave hey you get off my pavement before they came on !
I'll never see them live : (
SAD
NEWS
I think..
There's one last tour, you might want to try and find details for people.. The only date I know of so far is
Sun 3 Dec at King Tut's in Glasgow
that's really, really sad,
despite how good malcolm's solo albums are (haven't heard aidan's). Why can't we have both? First Big Weekend really was one of the singles of the last decade.
although this is upsetting news
Malcolms solo material is getting stronger and stronger so its not so bad.
Their legacy remains unblemished.
RIP The Strap.
This news
is really really sad.
But the good thing is that they've left us with a back catalogue of pure quality and didn't end up becoming shite, so I say thanks to Malcolm and Aidan for making such amazing music and for stopping when they decided it was the right time.
Amazing band. We are lucky people.
oh
fuck.
i am also very sad
i was just listening to the last romance yesterday. BEAUTIFUL - they will be missed.
Damn & fishladder
They were fucking diamond. This has pissed on my bonfire like Guy Fawkes coming down off a Jimmy :(
ballsackage
these guys were both fantastic and, racking my brains, utterly unique. still, we all have Elephant Shoe or Monday at the Hug And Pint or Mad For Sadness or Philophobia or The Cunted Circus or any of their albums - they're all fantastic.
a shame
i was never a massive fan but still. i've put the red thread on in tribute.
Bad news!!!!!
:-(
...
ditto that. still, it's a pity.
gutted. :(
really. really.
atleast they are making music, if not together.
This is rubbish
Only seen them once A moffat wouldn't shake my hand because he'd been for a piss, other then that they were great
:-(
SADFACE!!!!!!
:(
frigging shame. they have at least two classic albums.
will seek out more info about forthcoming tour coming slightly nearer to oxford. glasgow in december could be a fun idea though.
currently rinsing Monday at the Hug and Pint in a slightly emotional state.
bah
rubbish.
NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
fuckers...
arab strap albums in order of merit you say?
1. the red thread
2. mad for sadness (live record)
3. monday at the hug and pint
4. philophobia
5. the cunted circus (live album)
6. the last romance
7. elephant shoe
8. the week never starts around here
thier site has some great from mp3's, rarities and videos on it btw
r.i.p.
RIP indeed
Yeah it's sad, but I think this makes sense, The Last Romance was the first album where I felt they were beginning to reuse a formula. They wouldn't be doing this if the juices were still flowing like they once did.
Arab Strap, I salute you for ending your life cycle the same way you lived it, with integrity!
I salute you for choosing art over remuneration!
And I salute you for ten years of fucking first class tunes!
ah well
as much as I think this is sad news, I can understand what they've said.
it was great while it lasted. Will be nice to see them one last time - will have to make sure I get a ticket.
The Love Detective
= brilliance.
