Another one gone: The Visions call it a day

Romantic rock band The Visions (formerly known as The Dawn Parade) have decided to call it quits.

The Dawn Parade (pictured right) sprung up in 2003, garnering rave reviews from the press, which included a 10/10 review from DiS. The band decided to change their name to The Visions last year, but didn't get to release their debut album before they split. The statement posted on their MySpace reads:

"The band has run its course and the four of us are ready to call it a day. We remain friends, and hope it will be possible for people to hear the album. To that end, if you have a copy, feel free to burn away."

A best-of album is planned for an autumn release on Repeat Records. It includes the debut album, and previous singles released under the moniker of The Dawn Parade.

their early singles

are some of the most uplifting pieces of british indie in the last few years. 'good luck olivia' is AMAZING.
shame it never really happened for them, really.

i did use to think so

but i'm less sure i agree now. good luck olivia has the piano on it and mmmmm.

it's a shame, really. before they changed their name and stopped really doing anything, they were responsible for some of the best gigs i've ever seen, particularly the packed out ones at the Portland in Cambridge..

I saw them

many moons ago when Seymour from MBA was filling in on bass. I distinctly remember an empty Loughborough SU but nevertheless a fucking great gig! Tis a shame. I had The Electric Fence Your Gentleness EP, which was pretty good.

Oh well....

They just didn't have anything particularly distinctive about them - their songs were pretty bland and so were they as a band. Very dull live too

Caffeine Row

is one of the best songs of all time, and Greg McDonald is a songwriting genius. Unfortunately, he's rubbish at releasing any records. Ever. Ah well, I guess he'll have to settle for being the new Burt Bacarach instead.

sad news kids

i never really got to see the Dawn Parade Mark 1, but i remember seeing their first reformed gig - playing with the Exiles at some REPEAT Xmas bash....

its a shame, ok, the Vision/TDP wrote pop music it, and hey, thats what it was, but Greg's songs were great, and if bands like Snow Patrol eventually went from the toilet circuit to stadiums, i dont see why the dawn parade/the visions couldnt have...

ah boo i lost my promo of their album... it was scratched on "wider..." anyway!!!

The Dawn Parade

circa 2002-3 were one of the best bands I've ever seen, never caught them after that due to busyness and locational difference. HAve to say I prefereed the demos to the stuff on Into the Nightlife, but completely understand the intent behind it, and Cambridge girl is ace

They should, by rights, have become Crowded House (an ultra commercial band with actual good tunes and likableness when your not posing)

I'm sure the re-issues of Bury St Eds bands in 2013-18 will get praised to the ground
