Bloc Party @ Islington Academy

Quite hot new band, Bloc Party, are to play a special date at London's Barfly venue in Camden on Wednesday 16th February.

The fearsome foursome are to return to the venue of the DiS 2003 Xmas party in which we came in our pants. This time it's under the XFM Xposure banner, to celebrate the lovely John Kennedy's 6th radio birthday.

Joining them on a bill selected by Kele and co. themselves will be London darlings Neil's Children and chat sensation of the year, Battle.

Tickets, which are a paltry £5, go on sale at 10.00am on Monday (17th Jan) through this here link:

 In other Battle related news, the quartet are to play a run of lead-up dates:

 January

24 London - Marquee (Paul Epworth Curates / Tsunami Relief Fund)

27 London - Buffalo Bar (Rock Feedback night) with Yeti (John Hassall ex-Libertines)

Full line up for DiS' Paul Epworth/Charity event will be announced tomorrow. But honestly, it's going to be phat grime.

Oh, and Bloc Party are also doing a signing tour in support of their debut single...

How can you possibly think Neils Children are good but then condemn Battle, or Killing Moon or whatever they're calling themselves this week.
Killing Moon were the only band I saw last year who actually have real songs, and REAL passion.

towers of london are a band who are riding high on the success of the darkness. they have twat hair. and twat songs. and they're probably cunts.

bloc party however, despite the FUCKING LARGE media hype which usually sends me in the opposite direction from the subjects, are really really good.

i doubt that VERY much. they seem like more of a close-knit, focused unit than many bands. they have the attention of people right across the spectrum - from those looking for the latest cool thing to buy into, to the casually-interested gig punter, to the people who aren't remotely charmed by any of the scene-orientated hype that surrounds most "buzz" bands. and they seem to have a healthy crop of people who hate them too. i'd say they've hit the ground running...

completely agree. tower records are so painfully awful.

block party are wicked seen them twice and they blew me away with their enthusiasm and intense music.

battle are a wicked band that will defintely make it big this year. just like bloc party they are a group of guys who are not caught up in media hype and celebrity status. they all truly believe in their music which is evident from their performances. seen them numerous times and can't wait to see what music is produced this year. im sure it will be instense and exciting from what i have heard so far.

so ignore tower records- the music industry could do without the prats with stupid hair.

Yeh know what you mean - I've seen them a couple of times before that way but it wouldn't be so bad if them tickets had been 2 per person and I could comfort myself with the fact that real fans got them. I just know it would have been touts. raaaahhhhh. :(

That's a fuckin disgrace. After refreshing my browser for 5mins on the website, it finally said 'buy tickets' and let me in. I filled it all out in a flurry only to be told that it's sold out. At 10:10. Well gee, thanks very much.

i've given up on seeing bloc party for now.
I'm gona leave it until all the hype dies down(!) and the fake-scene fans fuck off,
then i'll go see them all alone at the barfly & not get ripped off.
