The Who to release first studio album for 24 years
- Artists:
- The Who »
Endless Wire, the forthcoming studio album by The Who, is to be released via Universal on October 30.
The band's last record was released 24 years ago. That's 1982's It's Hard, since you asked.
The Who are to tour northern America soon, where new songs are expected to be aired. Among the new compositions expected to make the Endless Wire cut are 'Wire & Glass', 'Man In A Purple Dress' and 'Mike Post Theme'.
I wrote a song called 'Mike TV Theme' once, about the Charlie And The Chocolate Factory character. T'was crap, though. That's a lie. All of it. Apart from the bit about The Who. That's true. Yup.

Mike Post Theme? Cover of The A Team? I really wanna know...
...
I'm sorry, who are you?
breastfuck
I bet this will be terrible...piano led power-prog- with melodies and lyrics designed and written specifically to demonstrate to an uncaring world, how intelligent Pete Townsend is.
...
When you here this sound a-comin,
Hear the drummers drumming,
I want you to join together with the band,
We dont move in any ticular direction,
And we dont make no collections,
I want you to join together with the band.
Do you really think I care,
What you read or what you wear,
I want you to join together with the band,
Theres a million ways to laugh,
And every ones a path,
Come on and join together with the band.
Everybody join together, I want you to join together,
Come on and join together with the band,
We need you to join together, come on and join together,
Come on and join together with the band.
You dont have to play,
You can follow or lead the way,
I want you to join together with the band,
We dont know where were going,
But the seasons right for knowing,
I want you to join together with the band.
Its the singer not the song,
That makes the music move along,
I want you to join together with the band,
This is the biggest band youll find,
Its as deep as it is wide,
Come on and join together with the band,
Hey hey hey hey hey hey, well everybody come on.
Come on and join, join together with the band,
We need you to join together, everybody come on,
Hey hey hey, join together with the band.
The who do not need to make a new album
and we do not need it either - please don't do this you silly silly men.
The Wire & Glass single
is really rather good.
We may not need a new album from The Who, but the band are as good as ever. We should at leats give them a chance before writing them off.
'Who Cares?'
Like I said.
For all the negative comments....
er, don't buy it or listen then....duh, simple really.
overrated twaddle
they are (were?) the emperors new clothes of rock. a couple of mediocre songs in 40 years should not equal legendary status. give up & die please.
breastfuck
I wont buy it or listen to it, but I reserve the right to slate it- on the basis of the two recent tracks they stuck on a greatest hits a while back, and the fact they've done nothing good for thirty years
They are quite clearly NOT as 'good as ever'...ridiculous...they are nothing to do with the band that made 'my generation'...thats a fucking record
Old vs new
Nope. You're right. This bunch are nothing to do with the band that made My generation. Well...except that the guy who wrote it is in this band. Oh...and the bloke that sang it. No. No connection there then....
Of course, I'm being pendantic. But fuck it. The old records are there. If you like them, listen to them. If you don't wish to listen to this - don't buy it! It's fucking simple, really. Me? I love the Who's old stuff and couldn't give a monkeys toss about the new songs. But loads of WHO fans are gonna, so why don't you just let them have something they've probably been waiting for without pissing all over it? There were generations of music fans before you and there will be generations when you're having sweetcorn spooned into your mouth by a home care worker. I'm tired of this 'they're too old' bollocks. I'm 25, but I don't see why that means I have to sit smugly back and bemoan the efforts of anyone over 40. Why? How does that make any sense at all? Just because they were once successful they should now stop, play only the hits or die?
You're the kind of person who probably only started liking Nirvana after the lead singer blew his brains out aren't you?
Sorry, but I'm sick of reading people go through this tired new vs old argument. Its bollocks and its almost always based on arbitrary decisions like: Johnny Cash is cool this week because a film was released about him. The Who are not because Keith Moon is dead.
Next week: A keith Moon biopic is released. The Who are now cool.
Do you need a biopic to tell you what to like???
SHEEP PEOPLE!!!!!
"But I don't like Johnny Cash" you'll argue. Now you're the pendantic one. I bet you like at least one band/musician over 40, whether you admit or not. That makes you a hypocrite.
Music by older musicians has value, as does that made by young. So shut up. Most of all: BECAUSE YOU HAVENT EVEN HEARD THE FUCKING THING!!!!!
Thanks.
P.S
By the way: My Generation isn't a record. Its a song that was pressed ONTO a record.
Really. When you get the esssentials right first, the bigger picture becomes easier to understand...
Lets start with guitars. Now. THIS IS A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT.....
breastfuck
dude, you're a total fucking wanker...and 100% wrong about pretty much everything you just went to the effort of typing
My Generation is The Who's first album, released on Brunswick in the UK, and Decca in the US, back in '65, and is an all time classic. I own several copies- a UK original, an eighties 'virgin' reissue, plus the double vinyl stereo reissue from a few years back. All time GREAT uk r and b/freakbeat lp- and up there with 'get the picture' by The Pretty Things and 'The Sect' by The Downliners Sect.
Despite the fact The Who contain 50% of the members they did back then, including the songwriter, in spirit, energy and straight up greatness, they have nothing to do with The Who of 1965. That album- and the late sixties singles that made them the legends they are today, are excercises in three minute pop genius. Concise masterpieces unsurpassed by any group since.
However, every ALBUM since the second (a quick one...etc) has been a pretentious 'concept' either dealing with Pete Townsends insecurities about his social status, his childhood, or just his deep seated desire to prove how fucking intelligent he is, over the course of 12 eight minute prog workouts. Fine if you like that sort of thing, but I don't, and I reserve my right to criticise them.
RE: Old guys still doing it- yes I can appreciate this- Sky Saxon dribbles about the stage in a pretty cool way- Brian Wilson...Arthur Lee, rip...Hell! Even The Who, when Townsend confines himself to backing vocals, and they are playing their old material. Not sure why you'd assume I don't like old men playing music- but who'd let facts get in the way of a good rant, eh? Hell! I never do. My dislike of The Whos pretentious concept shit, has nothing to do with their age.
RE: Nirvana, no...I've never liked Nirvana, not even after he died. I confess I'm a bit of a sixties geek...not got too much time for 'modern' bands, unless they are really great.
I'm not a hypocrite for not liking Who lps post 1966- 'sell out' has some great tracks on it...but as an lp, it fucking pisses me off...fucking concept my arse.
RE: Johnny Cash- I sort of like him... I used to go to 'come down and meet the folks' (legendary north london country thing on a sunday afternoon run by A. Tyler of the Rockingbirds)...soaked up a fair bit of his stuff there- and own a few of his early singles on UK London/American- but not a MASSIVE fan. Did enjoy the movie though. Loved the bit with the digging machine...awesome.
Did you know he got pissed once and accidentally burned down a load of forest- and nearly totally fucked the California Condors' chances of survival- for good! What a bellend!
RE: musical instruments. Yes- thank you, very droll. I play the guitar to a high standard (piss over Geriatric Townsend...what a jerk) I own a few nice vintage ones- nice stuff, but nothing compared to Townsends collection- which I got to play with when I recorded at his studio in Twickenham a few years back...
yeah right
I play the guitar to a high standard (piss over Geriatric Townsend...what a jerk)
One of the best rhythm guitarists in the world and a great lead improviser. It must be really soul destroying knowing how much better than him you are.
The Who Sell Out is a great album. But hey, that's just my opinion, as is yours, and both are valid but neither are bloody gospel.
I've got things like Sgt Peppers in mono and stereo, doesn't make me an expert on it.
breastfuck
you're better than him too, eh?
Good onya.
"The Who Sell Out is a great album. But hey, that's just my opinion, as is yours, and both are valid but neither are bloody gospel."
I agree.
"I've got things like Sgt Peppers in mono and stereo, doesn't make me an expert on it."
If you bothered to read my post and the post it was in reply to, you'd probably notice an element of sarcasm in my rant. The guy reckons 'my generation' isn't a record, its a song off a record...he's a jackass. I found it amusing to point out that I have several copies of the album 'my generation'...
Enjoy fucking your own ass with that courgette, dude.
Sex Offender Townshend
No-one should have anytime for this band. Townshends a kiddy porn pervert his actions are inexcusable ..... and so much for the 'research for a book excuse' Anyone who likes/endorses The Who may as well send some pictures of their kids to him so he can whack off over them!
What's your fucking problem ?
Due to your last sentence there's clearly no point in trying to debate anything with you because you're clearly a bit of a tit
Good day to you sir
breastfuck
yeah, you sound like a cock too...is this a fucking birdwatching site or what?
You sound angry pretty much every time you post- a lack of humour runs through everything I've read by you on here.
You need to lighten up- and stop bothering me.
Hahahaha
takes deep breath, hahahahahaha
Take a good look at yourself before insulting others. You cannot take the slightest disagreement with you on here without flying off the handle.
breastfuck
au contraire
I normally try to be pretty calm- unless people seem to be arguing for the sake of it. In that situation all bets are off, and yes, I take some enjoyment from 'flying off the handle'
Thought I wasn't worth debating with. I thought the courgette thing was pretty funny myself...was going to go with marrow, but I asked my asshole and it said 'no'
I hope I die before I get old
Now now thats a bit irrelevent isn't it.
I'll have the last word if you don't mind.
