Kerrang! Awards: My Chemical Romance win big

New Jersey quintet My Chemical Romance - whose third album (we can't tell you what it's called, even though we know and have heard it) is released in October - have been named 'Best Band On The Planet' at the annual Kerrang! Awards.

The popular rockers, playing Reading and Leeds this weekend, weren't the only winners at yesterday's ceremony - Muse won the 'Best Live Band' gong, and the honour of 'Best British Band' went the way of Welsh outfit Lostprophets. They also scooped the 'Best Album' award for their 'Liberation Transmission' long-player.

Slayer were inducted into the Kerrang! Hall Of Fame, and the yearly 'Legend' award went the way of AC/DC's Angus Young.

Winners in full as follows...

Best Band On The Planet - My Chemical Romance
Best British Band - Lostprophets
Best Live Band - Muse
Best Album - Lostprophets ‘Liberation Transmission’
Best Single - Bullet For My Valentine ‘Tears Don't Fall’
Best Video - Fall Out Boy ‘Sugar, We're Going Down’
Best British Newcomer - Bring Me The Horizon
Best International Newcomer - Aiden
Classic Songwriter - Placebo
Spirit Of Independence - Prodigy
Kerrang! Hall Of Fame - Slayer
Kerrang! Legend - Angus Young

Why can't you say...

The Black Parade?

The website is even up.

was

just gona say that.
also interesting how the BBC say that the lost phropets were the "big winners". meh.

Is it now?

Okay, cool.
The record's called... yeah, that.

the mainstream metal scene

has never been shitter

...

what a surprising and adventurous list of winners........

its about time

sum1 reckognsed that mcr r, like, totally awsome. b4 i heard mcr i thougt i was alone withmy pain, but, since i 1st hrd im not ok(i promise0) i knew that i wasnt alone with my pain.plus, they right the best tunes eva!not2mention that ther all wel fit!gerard,u rock!urs 4eva xXx

pS

lostprofets RULE! Lol xXx

..

you forgot the Z at the end of Lol.
I'll demonstrate: Lolz XxX. See, much better.

Dang,

and there was me thinking I was WAY down with the kidZ.

but

most of those bands aren't metal, and if they are, are an absoloutely terrible representation of metal. there's no way you're a metal fan and think that's the best that's out there. come on, bring me the horizon!? their old stuff is just breakdowns one after the other, and their new stuff just sounds like they're ripping off The Number Twelve Looks Like You completely.

.....

Metal is not about having an attitude, its how the music sounds you mindless fool. Otherwise you could describe any sort of music as metal. Indie included.

^^^

Right back atcha big boy.

I met MCR

Ther were nice.

.

music is about an attitude and clothes??
What are you talking about?
Really? is that what you think?
and its not my kooks album, i borrowed it from yer mum. After i shagged her. twice.

As opposed to

listening to your MCR albums, like a good little boy? And being MAD? Like, CRAZY and ZANY and, like, totally zany and IN YOUR FACE, so take that, indie kidz and parentz and teecherz, awright! Metal! Yeah! You can all SUCK MY C*CK, 'cause I bought ALL my clothes from the adverts in the back of Kerrang! Including a T-shirt that says "I'M, LIKE, TOTALLY METAL! SATAN IS MY LORD! F*CK! CR*KEY! I'M, LIKE, TOTALLY AP*SHIT RIGHT HERE!"

METAL! METAL!! MEETAAAAL!!!! UP YOUR ASS!

...

i quite liked it.
But really, if you think music is about how you act and what you wear you are really on the wrong site. if you glance at my profile even briefly you will see i like metal but the bands listed in this piece are just the dull, sellable, bland end of the genre. My whole problem with it is that kerrang has become horribly predictable and insular.
Sad really.

how

can you possibly describe a band like my chemical romance as metal? and what attitude? they're corporate whores on the same level of a band like the kooks, if not more.

Take Mastodon for a decent metal band with pretty decent commerical success.

Mastodon > MCR

True.
Actually...
Mastodon > prettymucheveryone

its a date.

i'll be the big skinhead in the autechre t-shirt.
see you in a few hours.
Ace.

^^

i really want to hear the new album, wasnt too impressed by the others but its been gettin really good feedback. Just hope the drummer has calmed down a bit.

he is well skill

but he just does too many of those 16 beat flurry fills that seem to grate on me.

....

that costs extra.

spirit of independence

is the award they give to bands that aren't on a major. Prodigy are on XL.

I think they gave it to ATR one year...

i haven't read kerrang for years - why do i remember all of this?!

I remember when Kerrang had quite a good editor who was into promoting the underground (he instigated the 'spirit of independence' thing and did a huge feature on fugazi - he wasn't re-inventing the wheel, but it was better) but then he left (to run Q, i think) and that was when K! started to become some kind of bizzare lifestyle magazine, suggesting what tv-shows you should watch and all that bollocks.
If metal really is an attitude (and before you can say that you probably need "stay metal" tattooed on your neck) then surely it is a Scott Kelly kind of thing; rather than an MCR thing...

meh, i am well metal - and those bands mostly suck.

There is a lot of chat

about what metal is "all about".
Who gives a fuck??

If you like it then great.
If you hate it then great.

I used to like metal when I about 15.
Now I don't.
Great !

hahaha

pwned!

Metal,

silly!

hey mate...

you're a dickhead.

I am the Metal King.

truth

reviews and introducing section is where the Crunch is

the rest is just adverts.

what

like what the fuck happened to kerrang! I remember when it started turning in like 98, and started featuring shit bands. It was brutal before, and so preferable to Metal Hammer, which was a bit gay.

Wow

Can no one prove their friggin point without bringing up having sex with somebody's mom? Next thing you know, it won't even be a fight about music anymore, which is stupid enough. It'll turn into a fight with quick comebacks about whose balls dropped first.
