Mogwai in bed with the Government: radio sessions LP due

In a fitting and timely tribute, Peel heroes Mogwai are to release an album’s worth of BBC Radio sessions in February 2005.

The majority of the ten tracks were recorded at Maida Vale Studios and the cuts range from 1996 to 2003 (check out the old-skool 'gwai picture on the right), supplying a rather handy overview of the band’s career so far.

Speaking of the release, group leader Stuart Braithwaite said: “The reason why we’re putting out this collection is simple, the recordings here are worth hearing. Some are definitely better than the official recordings. Some are sketchy, but to be honest, so are we. Sketchy but nice. Nicely Sketchy.”

’Government Commissions (BBC Sessions 1996-2003)’ is released on 21st February 2005

Having got our grubby mitts on a copy, we can highly recommend. Especially ‘New Paths To Helicon Part 1’. It’s lush.

Full track listing and session dates would be:

Hunted By A Freak’ (recorded at Maida Vale 21/05/03)
R U Still in 2 It’ (recorded at the Hippodrome 22/12/96)
New Paths To Helicon Part II’ (recorded at Maida Vale 20/01/98)

Re: Mogwai in bed with the Government: radio sessions LP due

I love Mogwai, one of the best bands ever... however i do wish you hadn't put a picture of them on the story. Stuart Braithwaite has one of those faces you really wanna punch (this coming from one of the biggest wimps on the planet).

Loving the front three in the pic. Were Mogwai the original GLC? Discuss.

Re: Mogwai in bed with the Government: radio sessions LP due

exactly, they dress like complete chavs. i remember them raving on about 'kappa' clothes in the late 90's in the nme. this was really embarrassing, especially as this was the same time they were trying to claim 'blur were shite'.

i wish they'd just play the music and keep their mouths shut otherwise i'll start hating them like nicky wire.

they probably talked about Kappa alot as they had a sponsorship deal with them, well thats what i've heard anyway and they thank Kappa on the linear notes on Come On Die Young,

they were also asked to appear in and soundtrack a commercial for Gap clothing in America a few years ago, as Gap thought they were cool scarily.

everyone should be made to listen to mogwai by LAW.
can't wait for this to come out.might just bring me out of hibernation.

Super Furry Animals and Low are better than this self-indulgent and over-rated bunch.

Remember when they dissed Blur? now, now children.

Re: Mogwai in bed with the Government: radio sessions LP due

What?! they are actually Kappa slappers?

Mogwai in bed with the Government: radio sessions LP due

hahahah from what i remember they were taking the piss wanting to endorse 'sports-goth wear'. it was all in the name of fun. in all honesty i think they're one of the greatest bands from the UK.

can't fucking wait

Mogwai in bed with the Government: radio sessions LP due

Erm ,why does the article headline read that they're "in bed with the government"? Is it cos they're BBC sessions? Is the BBC 'the man'?

Re: Mogwai in bed with the Government: radio sessions LP due

yes
it is part of the public sector, innit.
funded by taxes and licenses, y'know.
