65daysofstatic
Debut album 'The Fall Of Math' has had journos in a tizz. I know, I was. They have been described as Squarepusher meets Mogwai. It's lazy, but not far from the basic building blocks of their unique sound. Their live shows are viciously euphoric, frenetic, overwhelming, bordering on chaos and really, really loud.
Jason and the Astronauts
I love these guys. From Tunbridge Wells they come, playing disco tunes for punk rockers. Their album 'The Mourning After Math' (Unlabel) is top dollar, boss.
Cove
Also from Tunny Wells, Cove are a true POWER trio - driving rhythms, slashing guitars, super-rock riffing and a Shellac-worthy sense of timing. Sweet...
Help She Can't Swim
Fantastic lo-fi girl-fronted hyperactive indie rock. Think Bikini Kill or Huggy Bear crossed with Sonic Youth, Pretty Girls Make Graves and Gravy Train. Think wigging out.
Spraydog
Long-time Peel faves making well-loved indie rock, like Dinosaur Jr, My Bloody Valentine, the Delgados and Sonic Youth.
Charlottefield
One of the very best bands in the UK, I shit thee not. Live, they are unstoppable. A collision of Captain Beefheart rhythms, The Fall's sensibilities and Fugazi's sonics. Only more. DO NOT MISS, FOOLS.
The Edmund Fitzgerald
Highly intellectual but lovable math-rock from Oxford, it's a mystery to all how they manage their superb timings.
Phil Collins 3
Imagine the Nation of Ulysses wearing crazy costumes playing the Beginners Guide to Melt Banana. Now you're half way to the eccentric genius of the PC3.
Ship's A Going Down
These dudes post-rock with the best of 'em. Slint and Billy Mahonie influences mixed with a touch of Godspeed beauty. Only LOUDER.
DJs, too. Nice one. Oh, and there's Thai food available, and stalls with records and zines and all that jazz.
GO.

And it's my kidney on the line (ebay listing prepared) if nobody turns up so I hope you all do!
Re: Honey, I got rhythm - Sunday all-dayer promises the ROCK
Still, the Oxford massive is being reprazented in the form of the wonderful Ed Fitz, so it's all good.
That's what I'm talking about.
Re: Honey, I got rhythm - Sunday all-dayer promises the ROCK
Therefore it makes most sense to hold events such as these in London - maximises the chance of getting the people there and also maximises accessibility.
I don't mean to be patronising or London-centric but that is what it boils down to.
Hell, I moved to London cos I was so frustrated that everyuthing happens there...
Maybe that's not an attitude that will combat the somewhat unhealthy situation we have in this country - where everything is so focused on the Southeast (many economic and social problems have arisen from this as we all know)... and the Naughty North is bloody amazing and generous and marvellous... but it is the way it is and the situation is founded on some basic principles of logic I'm afraid.

Re: Honey, I got rhythm - Sunday all-dayer promises the ROCK
go up north and strangers actually speak to you!!! It's honestly marvellous - FRIENDLY, genuine people - nice.
If you talk to a someone you don't know in London, they look at you as if you're trying to steal their soul, it's really sad - London has so much going for it, but it's the bane of the metropolis, people are to uptight and scared that eaveryone's out to get them.
Re: Honey, I got rhythm - Sunday all-dayer promises the ROCK
I hope today's Alldayer will be just as much fun and friendly!

Re: Honey, I got rhythm - Sunday all-dayer promises the ROCK
But I am from the North and I find the number of really rude-to-the-point-of-(my)-boiling-rage people in London quite outrageous. Back home in Doncaster old ladies would soon put a stop to people on buses hogging two seats, four year olds and their parents with a seat each on the tube while someone old stands two feet away, and people pushing you on/off the tube/buses in their haste to get past you. I have been pushed on the stairs at an Underground station for politely pointing out to someone there was a bin not 10 feet away from where they left a can on the floor. A friend of mine was pushed off a train platform by a woman because he brushed past her paper. Etc. Really, a lot of people here are twats.
But the music's good, innit?
Anyhoo, I hope everyone who came enjoyed yesterday. We had a good day.
Re: Honey, I got rhythm - Sunday all-dayer promises the ROCK
I just hope the promoters put on another event like it again soon.
I have posted my overview of the day here:

Re: Honey, I got rhythm - Sunday all-dayer promises the ROCK
Perhaps you should listen to them again?
Hmmm?
Re: Honey, I got rhythm - Sunday all-dayer promises the ROCK
Being far more of a fan of post-rock/experimental music then of hardcore, you can see maybe why they did little for me though.
Re: Honey, I got rhythm - Sunday all-dayer promises the ROCK
Each to their own, I guess.
Still, at least you could make the gig. I was otherwise engaged.
Re: Honey, I got rhythm - Sunday all-dayer promises the ROCK
"Jason and the Astonauts:
South coast dwelling post hardcore band - unpredictably tuneful, noisy and clean limbed."
They sounded more pop to me, but... It was a fantastic day though, you certainly missed something!
Re: Honey, I got rhythm - Sunday all-dayer promises the ROCK
Still, I've seen all the bands before, Spraydog aside, so I don't feel as bad as I otherwise would.
JatA are playing the Buffalo Bar pretty soon. Why not see 'em again? Their record is ace.

Maybe it already happened...?
Re: Honey, I got rhythm - Sunday all-dayer promises the ROCK
The places around where I live organise great gigs, Northampton/Norwich/Peterbourgh all have had the big bands DiS have organised before or right after the london gigs. The Departure, Biffy, 22-20's, The Dears and Babyshambles have all been down here. If I was going to travel for a gig I would go to Sheffield Leadmill or Leeds anyway. When It's bands like "Do me Bad Things" I tend not to be Jealous and more then often laugh out loud.
