The single of the summer? 'Young Folks' out soon...
We're not usually ones to get excited about a single release - we've usually more fanciful fish to focus our attentions on - but Swedish outfit Peter, Bjorn and John's 'Young Folks' might just be the most brilliant, immediate-classic seven-inch (and CD!) released this summer.
'Young Folks' is released on the aforementioned formats on August 7 through Wichita, and can be pre-ordered right now here. A remix 12" will also be available.
Why the excitement, though? Well, it's rare that each office-based DiSser agrees on a song's excellence, but this beam of purest aural sunshine ticks all our boxes. Featuring Victoria Bergsman, formerly of The Concretes, 'Young Folks' is memorable dream-pop, replete with skittery drums and lyrics entirely concerned with the universally appealing theme of the here and now - forget tomorrow, 'cause you're here with me, now... et cetera. Plus, it features a whistled melody that the milkman will be repeating 'til the first snow falls upon Britain's green and pleasant lands.
Signed copies of Peter, Bjorn and John's Writer's Block LP are available to pre-order here. We suggest you get the single, then the album, and join us in whistling 'til our lips crust over and splinter apart.

not convinced by the tracks I heard
good but not enough...
lyle, I love you but you're wrong
Well, about this one song anyway
Wahay
I like this a lot.
yeah. xfm have been bigging it up
meaning its usually shit, by orson or both of the forementioned. but for once they got it bang on
actually, in all fairness to the dj's they often plug good sotw's, its merely that they have to surround it with 57 piss weak feeder, rhcp and keane tracks
is this that song with all the whistling in it
took me ages to appreciate it, now it dominates me like that lady i pay.
Diver
I'm taking your word for it on this - just ordered it even though I haven't heard a note... the Victoria Bergsman involvement kinda swung it too though.
i saw them live a few weeks ago
and this single is indeed a slice of summery pop perfection. the rest is a bit meh though.
album's lovely
nice work
Cool
I'm looking forward to hearing this shizzle...
Ah, Low tonight... bliss.
Fantastic record
The album is great too.
I'm always wrong !
But i love you too !
Hmm...
...i wanted to like this what with Victoria Bergmann being involved and also being lovely, but its a bit of a non-event, and the video annoys the hell out of me.
What is the best...
... summer single of all time though? I would side with Arab Strap's First Big Weekend (which is now 10 years old!!!)
anyone know
where i can hear the single, is on myspace or something

Its a brilliant album btw!!!
this is a cute enough tune
but it's so tediously weedily wet. And such a crap Swedish indie band name. I remember getting bored by The Concretes a year or so ago at Glastonbury, so I now look forward to getting excited by Peter Matthew Bjorn Mark Luke John playing soon and I'll go "they sing that sweet whistling song" and people will stupidly come with me and we'll hang around for 30 minutes and everyone will get bored and Young Folks will come on and I'll leave half way though because I built a half decent song up half far too much and we'll end up watching something really shit like Mystery Jets or similar.
And it's all just shit. Garbage. Have some sense people.
opinions
may differ from yours, big guy...max chillax T-Dog.
peace and fucking. x
it's nice
but that's it. it's just... 'nice'.
i know it's older, but 'mushaboom' by feist is a much better example of that breezy summery 'vibe'.
This album is the bees knees
And its a grower, give it time.
Paris 2004 is like the best pop song ever.
it's amazing
reading a comment and thinking I saw The Concretes at Glastonbury too then realised I was stood next to Travis B! I'm with MD though. It's the best song of the summer so far, certainly the most infectious. Great whistle and unusually, great beats. Swedes do pop far better than us frankly.
