...Trail o'Dead: LP Delayed + Neil Leaves

Trail loses a member and new album gets delayed...

Trail of Dead... Yeah-aah... Trail of Dead... sonic-punks ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead's have two chunks of sorta bad news. Firstly, the band recently parted company with their bass player Neil Busch due to "severe health problems". Neil has been replaced by Danny Wood from Austin band The Rise. However, rumours suggest Neil, who worked on the record and has been touring the world with this infamous troop is getting better.

Secondly, the follow-up to 2002's 'Source Tags & Codes', which was ear-marked for an October release, has been pushed back until January 2005. The album's called 'Worlds Apart' and some tracks from it have been aired live at sporadic shows since the end of their world tour last year.

Conrad (Keely) explains the reasons why over on trailofdead.org:

"[There] are three reasons they have for this – U2, No Doubt, and Eminem. All three are putting out records in October, and they don't want to have to dust ours under the rug. This happens in the industry sometimes. There are other reasons, such as we don't wash our hair and we need to take promo pictures."

Aaaaah, ain't major labels brilliant? However, the band still plan to tour the US and UK in the near future to coincide with a preview single.

DiScuss: What're you expecting from the new album? Anyone heard any of it? Favourite Trail o'Dead experience? Best Trail o'Dead / Sonic Youth inspired new band you've seen lately?

Guttes. I need to see them. Badly. Can't wait for the new album either...

Thats a real shame about Neil leaving. I hope whatever the illness he gets well soon!
Lovely bunch TOD, met Conrad and Jason after a wolves gig a while back, really good lads.
Can't wait for the next lp, theyr one of very few acts left that generally excite me with forthcoming noise explosions!

if you check out the board on the www.trailofdead.net website there are links and bittorrents to a couple of recent shows, including an awesome show at Sound Team's rehearsal space! the new stuff sounds awesome, hardly more-of-the-same! plus they have a second drummer/fx guy as well :)

Re: ...Trail o'Dead: LP Delayed + Neil Leaves

What can I say? TOD have been one of my favourite bands for the past four years since I saw them live for the first time at Reading 2000. The experiences I've had watching that band border on quasi religious, particularly the main stage show of Reading 2001. I was at the front and dancing, moshing all the way through it screaming my head off. A crowdsurfer landed on my head during 'A Perfect Teenhood' and I didn't care. I cryed for a solid hour afterwards, seemingly oblivious to everything else. Manchester in 2002 was great too, met Neil (and later Conrad) and had an interesting chat about Bauderlaire and Existentialist Poetry. I'd hate for Neil to leave permenantly as One Quarter of Trail of Dead is worth a Thousand Pete Dohertys. It's hardly surprising the album has been put on hold, but I'm looking forward to hearing it. Is it on P2Ps yet?

Re: ...Trail o'Dead: LP Delayed + Neil Leaves

nah, don't think it will crop up for a while, apparently the band are using the extra time to rerecord a couple of songs or do some new ones/b-sides - the good news about the wait is that hopefully Neil will be well enough to rejoin by January! So no dohertyesque behaviour there then :p

aahhh...trail of dead at leeds met, april 2002. probably one of the best gigs i've been to. despite some initial sound problems the band managed to rip the fucking place down. stagediving, crowdsurfing, feeding (the largest bottle ever of) jack daniels to the crowd!!!happy memories.

Also get well soon Neil!!!!

walking about new trail of the dead type bands I've been listening to and loving Read Yellow at the moment, I was in a guitar shop the other week and they started playing some 'trail of the dead which at first i thought was Read Yellow...anyway, Kill Kenada are quite good too.

Shame about the delay, I really want to hear some new stuff.

Boo. I want my rock and roll anarchy now, not later.

Re: ...Trail o'Dead: LP Delayed + Neil Leaves

I too was at that imfamous Leeds met gig; where they blew their bass amp up then urged the crowd to throw things at them on stage to pass the time. Class.

Re: ...Trail o'Dead: LP Delayed + Neil Leaves

Yeah Kill Kenada are great. And i know a band called Action Plan who are also fairly Trail of Deady and are rather cool.

I couldn't give a fuck about them. I'm kinda of sick of bands grovelling towards fans esp when they want them to buy the 'new album'. Nor do i dig anyone covering the rare Carole King song 'He Hit Me' it's an extremely personal song to me. Trail of Dead can go fuck themselves.

Worlds apart seems to be on soulseek now, if anyone is interested.
