No-one should miss Japanese post-rock band Mono who play the Metro Club on Oxford Street, London on Saturday 6th March! The band use and abuse the post-rock staples of quiet/loud/quiet to stunning effect with a real emotional undercurrent. Think Slint / Mogwai / Godspeed You Black Emperor territory and you're halfway there.

Re: DiS Guide to March '04

Gavin is correct.
Mono are better than your band.
And yours.
In fact, they're better than the bands Gavin has listed.
They'll strip your ears of skin before spraypainting you black and rogering you like a randy elephant.
Only, with nothing but music.

Mmmm, rogering.

Re: DiS Guide to March '04

Mono are the loudest band I've heard since My Bloody Valentine. Essential stuff.

not sure about the rogering though... better keep that to yourself Mikey...

DiS Guide to March '04

And support comes from Southend's "Breakneck Static".

Nice.

New Maelkar EP 'Dresden Fire Fight' out 12th March through Gag Records. QOTSA / Mars Volta / Led Zeppelin-esque heavy noise metal rock.

Re: DiS Guide to March '04

It's gonna be great!!

Does anyone know anything about "Moly" who are also on the bill?

Re: DiS Guide to March '04

The Hundred Reasons tour, with Biffy.

What I'm looking forward to most is "Signal to Noise Live!" at Aldershot West End Centre (that place where the recent Reuben vid was filmed) on 19th March. It features four bands from the Signal to Noise CD which was mentioned on DiS a while back. The CD features loads of up-and-coming bands including Miss Black America. Info on the CD and links to sites with info about the gig is here: http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/8761.html

DiS Guide to March '04

Are Miss Black America playing Aldershot?

Re: DiS Guide to March '04

Signal To Noise is the title of The Rise's last record.

Get some new ideas.

DiS Guide to March '04

Stop calling Biffy Clyro xXEmOXx, for fuck's sake. They're far, FAR beyond that kind of a tag! Anyway, shouldn't you be busy bad-mouthing Senses Fail in the name of good taste?

Re: DiS Guide to March '04

I'm afraid they're not. Wouldn't it be great though...

Equally rocking bands that are playing, however, are: Karn8 (female fronted goth metal),
Without Grace (anthemic stadium rock),
Audax (funky metal, think Lost Prophets and Incubus) Opus (instrumental riffage and noise - Mogwai meets Tool).

And if you're really going to be pedantic, "Signal to Noise" is an ages old song by Peter Gabriel, not just an album by The Rise. And even then, its a standard recording term. So therefore, "originality is a myth". :-)

DiS Guide to March '04

Senses fail rock;)

DiS Guide to March '04

Is anyone going to see The Boxer Rebellion on this tour? They are pretty cool I think even if they do give off a slightly 'we are too cool for this stage' vibe. They definitely have lots of potential...

Re: DiS Guide to March '04

i am off to see them tomoro night, should be fun.

DiS Guide to March '04

Saw the Boxer rebellion last night.
An exceedingly good show but could have played for longer.

DiS Guide to March '04

having just seen them.
they are pretty good, both the supports are good as well.
'headway' and 'donderevo.'
donderevo have a young rolf harris lookalike on bass :].
go see them if you can, and watch both supports.

DiS Guide to March '04

Other album releases you missed:

Seachange - Lay of the Land
Blonde Redhead - Sadness is a Butterfly

Re: DiS Guide to March '04

I did mention the Seachange record with their tour dates.

DiS Guide to March '04

"oh no!" by crackout is out this month. i am excited.

Re: DiS Guide to March '04

Sir, you are a sainted ass and a fool.

DiS Guide to March '04

"oh no!" by crackout is shite. the title says it all.

DiS Guide to March '04

Two more must buy hiphop albums are out this month too:

Cee-lo - Cee-lo Green is a soul machine (15th)

And the Madlib/MF Doom collaboration is out this month too. Called something like MAdvillian probably.

If anybody likes mainstream hiphop then check out the Cam'ron album out this month too.

Re: DiS Guide to March '04
