Get involved with DiS!

We're looking for new writers, profiles staff and bloggers.

Do you harbour a burning passion for music? Do you feel that you've something fresh and exciting to contribute to Drowned in Sound? We're looking for new people to come aboard as we expand and move forward to new horizons.

All positions are unpaid, but do of course come with a few benefits (CDs, tickets and the 'respect' of your contemporaries being but three).

I have to stress at this point that if you don't fit into one of the below categories, we're currently unable to accomodate you into the team, but thank you for your interest.

Please send three examples of your work, with at least one album review and one live review to: editor [at] drownedinsound [dot] com - PLEASE mark the subject line with the position you are interested in. If you don't get a reply, please don't be insulted - as you can imagine, these things are rather popular!

Electronic/Dance contributors
We're looking to extend our coverage of IDM/House/Techno etc. and are looking for writers who take a keen interest in the worlds of ADAADAT, Playhouse, electroclash and everything that comes with it. If you're a regular listener to everything from Jimmy Edgar and Isolee through to Dev Remix, Germlin and more, then please apply!

Heavy Rock/Metal contributors
Regular readers of the site will be fully aware that Raziq Rauf pretty much heads up the 'heavy' side of DiS, but we're looking for one or two people to work beside him and ensure we're covering all the important releases from Roadrunner and its ilk. Applicants should have a decent grasp of commercial metal (of a Kerrang! style), through to underground movements and your local scene.

Rap & hip-hop contributors
If your passion for lyrics and beats extends beyond Nelly, then we'd love to hear from you. An intricate knowledge of the timeline of hip-hop isn't entirely necessary, but a good grasp of both old-skool friendly jams (Jurassic 5, Beastie Boys, Ugly Duckling) and newer underground works from MF Doom, Edan and the like would be fantastic.

Profile contributors
Despite being one of the most dauntingly comprehensive databases of bands an artists on the internet, there's always going to be gaps and things missing. If you enjoy researching and writing short band biographies as well as adding bands suggested by readers and submissions from unsigned talent, this is the post for you.

Live contributors
If you live in any of the following areas, we'd be interested to hear from you with regard to live reviews of any genre:
Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast, Canada, Birmingham and the United States.
It is essential that you spend time at local band shows and on your local scene as well as attending larger national tours when they come to town.

E-content blog contributors
DiS is soon to launch our downloads section in the form of a weblog, enabling people to quickly skim the latest videos and audio from the big labels, as well as an as-always healthy selection of emerging artists. If you've an insatiable thirst for discovering new music and spend your days looking for another secret to tell the world, this position is waiting for you. You'll also be expected to add one or two links a week that are passed on you via e-mail.

At this point, we're currently not looking for writers to review indie/rock albums. We look forward to hearing from you and reading your submissions.

I think

Delve should do the Metal reviews with Raz...

it is

my destiny.

I think

Fullerov should write profil !
So i would hassle him to do Lush, Catchers...

If you add...

Stockholm/Sweden to the list of areas in your 'live contributors section' then I'm in

and you ought to - there is a very healthy local scene alongside the fact that all the more established bands stop off here - some playing in ridiculously small venues too, e.g. last razorlight and strokes gigs were at the same 500 capacity venue and the interpol/bloc party tour played in an 800 capacity venue (albeit with about 1200 people crammed in)

delve does seem to know the score

i'd volunteer myself, but i don't think i'm good enough at writing

send me some samples dude

be interested to read what's going on x

So, like, if a friend, say, had written a profile on a local band (that are already on DiS, albeit in a very small way) then would you recommend sending it in? My friend wanted to send it in before, but he was scared you'd laugh and throw things at him

will do

though I'm supposed to be working right now, so expect it in a couple of days

when the profiles staff start

there will be an address for these kind of submissions.

if you already have profiles

can you just copy and paste?

So, just for us slow ones at the back, you're after people to help co-ordinate getting profiles on to DiS?

well, that and

you need to be able to write some yourself as well.

yes

and to actually write them themselves

there are loads of profiles without even basic biogs (band members and a couple of lines about the band)

yeah i'll offer my services

if you got my email hopesfully.

Then I'll be throwing my metaphorical hat into the arena as soon as I get home, ta

Put my name in Profile Contributors hat

I'd be good at older (50s, 60s, 70s or not highly DiS relevant)) bands and artists.

(Y)

!

What do you do if you'd be up for any of those posts?

I think I'd be good at doing any one of those things.

I'll probably type up some new reviews first though, is there any date you would like samples sent by?

i am so

applying for live reviews, and i have a huge advantage as i live in manchester aka the mecca of live music!!

E-content

I would be really interested in the E-content blog contributors section, as I already have my own [relatively new] MP3 blog... so... do I email asking for the position... or....

?

p.s.

...forgot to say, I'd also be up for the live review section: currently living in Londonderry [close to Belfast... so go to the good Belfast gigs when I get a chance], and next year will be living at Glasgow [hopefully] for uni.

can i

have the job i faked having on my cv?
not really

I'll put together some stuff

on the techno side

same goes

for Oslo, really. There's an explosively good local scene here (at times). The hip, happening acts also stop here and play everything from a 200 capacity venue to the 4000 capacity arena. I once saw Sigur Ros and a small orchestra cram themselves onto a stage the size of a dining room table in the student union thing.

There's also a festival every year that has some rather ace acts. This year there's...err... Beck and Morrissey headlining, and they're the worst acts announced so far.

Yeah, I'll send you some samples if you want.

Email + Writings = Sent

Am really up for doing some Electronica /IDM stuff guys, would make me very happy :)

what about...

...Cornwall on the live front?

Profile Contributor Please

I have the experience, the time and the inclination to do it.

The great thing about the profile team is that there's so much music out there, we can have quite a few people doing it.

A few questions......

Would you want fully comprehensive biogs and discographies a la AllMusic, or do you want shorter, more personal biogs?

Would we be concentrating on music since DiS was set up and just before (i.e. maybe 1995 onwards perhaps just as a possible point to start with) or going right back to say the early 60s?

I think

I blew my load too soon. I just sent some stuff that I've never read over. grr. Please pick me Crablin, I'll have your babies.

Ill do it..........

im metal as, i can be the one who keeps you all up to date with avante-garde metal, delve cant do that :P

if the metal one is for reviews, as i assume it is

ive already got one, for another site which i allegedy got a job as a reviewer. but i think he was lying.

so three, eh. ill have a look see, see what i can do.

:)

Yay hiphop and electronica

.

its not really dissing you though is it

you arent exactly up on those sorts of bands, are you?

Need

anyone for Dublin by chance ?

Just out of interest

when should we expect to recieve a reply (or not as the case may be)?

just wondering when i should stop obsessively checking my emails....

no

mike diver is though

i'm assuming by 'avant garde metal' you mean isis, cult of luna, etc?

metal for indie kids innit

No I think he means

More like Fantomas and other 'arty' metal bands.

I know shitloads about Isis/Cult of Luna etc.

Yeah i mean other bands

i wouldnt really call isis or cult of luna, arty or avant garde in comparison. but thats my opinion. and no diver doesnt do them

how " bout Japan?

you want any reviews from Japan?
