Friday feeling: The Take-Away Shows
Isn't the internet brilliant? La Blogotheque's brilliant Take-Away Shows is too but we hadn't fully realised just how brilliant until today. The Francophones amongst you may know it as Concerts A Emporter. Luke Slater investigates
Now, some, if not all of you will be familiar with London's Black Cab Sessions, but the Take-Away Shows were here first (so ner!), and in any case, it's hard for anything to rival the spontaneous brilliance that some of the Take-Away shows offer - see Architecture In Helsinki for that, below. The premise is quite simple: Bands, or part of bands, wander around urban, suburban, rural and commercial areas showcasing their wares to whoever happens to be about.
An absolutely astounding quantity and quality of artists have performed their own Take-Away Show since The Spinto Band were the first such band to feature, way back in April 2006.
The shows now number over 100, but here's a few of our favourites.
Architecture In Helsinki - 'Heart It Races'
Grizzly Bear - 'Shift'
There's an absolute shed-load more available (including Bodies of Water who play our stage at Concrete & Glass next week), so yeah, check 'em out 'cos they're really good and that.

"If this is the world we helped create, then I apologise." The Get Up Kids, Get Back
Er, this is clearly the best one:

In fact it's probably the best video in the world, ever.
beirut
the first nantes one they did is amazing
the whole flying club cup ones are worth a look too
i love that boy
and the yeasayer one of tightrope is awesome
no. the best one is
one of the Menemona videos, where these two little kids start dancing along to it.
I find Menemona a bit hit and miss, but that version of the song is amazing, and with the kids it just is such a happy-enducing thing.
Arcade Fire
in an elevator, great performance. and shredding a magazine as percussion? genius.
i love
hidden cameras "smells like happiness"
I love the Beirut one but my favourites are:
Yeasayer on the train and jamming in a flat. (oh you mentioned that one)

The National chilling out.

Man Man and kids dancing

and the delightful annie hardy http://www.blogotheque.net/St-Vincent,3519
I love that site.
cool stuff
interesting to see how bands use this canvas to do something interesting, or not, as the case may be. Arcade Fire did a pretty solid job, but jose gonzalez for example almost put me to sleep. loving the diy of it all!! shows like this really do separate the artistic geniuses from the rest if you ask me. radiohead's in rainbows on current still takes the biscuit though! id like to see marilyn manson or one of the metallers do one of these - just out of interest.
