The Bonus DiScussion: our Radiohead best-of mixes
- Artists:
- Radiohead »
What with the news of EMI compiling a Radiohead best-of (read), DiS decided to try and call the major’s bluff by assembling our own 15-track career-summary CDs.
The band won’t be doing any promotional work for their former label; likewise, DiS isn’t actually going to burn these mixes onto CDs and send them out to you. But you can, of course, shout our selections down. G’wan then – comment accordingly, but remember this is EMI material only, no XL goodness. We know you’re as geeky as these two super-fans…

The Gloaming
is dire... how could you?
all very well
but a b-side and rarities compilation is probably more worth having - like the drill ep, killer cars, lift (live) and the really good live version of dollars and cents which is noisy and paranoid as opposed to the version on Amnesiac that sends me to sleep
I'd stick
with the Last FM chart, but trade 'Creep' for 'You'.
PS
Gareth Dobson is on the money here, sorry Mike
1. Airbag
2. National Anthem
3. Black Star
4. You and Whose Army?
5. Reckoner
6. There There (The Boney King of Nowhere)
7. Optimistic
8. Let Down
9. Planet Telex
10. Idioteque
11. Pyramid Song
12. Karma Police
13. Everything in it's Right Place
14. How to Disappear Completely
15. Where I End and You Begin (The Sky is Falling In)
There you go.

2. Just
3. Airbag
4. Sail To The Moon
5. Idioteque
6. Kid A
7. Nude
8. There There
9. Paranoid Android
10. I Might Be Wrong
11. Reckoner
12. The National Anthem
13.Planet Talex
14. Lucky
15. Exit Music (For A Film
true dat
although i like the song - prove yourself (drill ep version) would be better
Talk Show Host
without being too nerdy, has gotta be in amongst it. frekin tune.
and also that True Love Waits from the live album would be in mine. bloody tune that.
I prefer
the Live mini album version of Like Spinning Plates...
both awesome though
I am also sad to miss off My Iron Lung and Airbag and god knows what else.
if EMI are clever, they'll do a nice 38-odd track double CD with some rareties spliced in there...
In fact, I might post my definitive double CD version later when I get bored...
x
oh, no XL
wish I could read.
Replace 5. Reckoner with Climbing Up the Walls then.
I'd put 'Banana Co' on there
fo sho. And 'High And Dry'.
(not really 'high and dry')
Where is Graham Reed's Top 15 Tracks?
I doubt much Kid A got on there:
http://www.drownedinsound.com/release/view/2419
True Love Waits
but they should just use the mp3 thats been floating online since 2000 as it has the lovely synthy bleeps in the background and is still the best version of it
Singles
Let face it - EMI is not going to be slipping in everyone's favorite lesser known album tracks here. I'm sure it will be primarily a singles comp, which may look something like this:
1. Anyone Can Play Guitar (1993)
2. Creep (1993)
3. Fake Plastic Trees (1995)
4. Just (1995)
5. High and Dry (1995)
6. Paranoid Android (1997)
7. Karma Police (1997)
8. No Surprises (1998)
9. Optimistic (2000)
10. Idioteque (2000)
11. Pyramid Song (2001)
12. Knives Out (2001)
13. I Might Be Wrong (2001)
14. There There (2003)
15. Go To Sleep (2003)
16. 2+2=5 (2003)
I bet it'll
open/close with Creep.
Add
Street Spirit to that and you might be on the money for an EMI compiled release.
Sulk and Let Down
are the best radiohead songs.
No Pop Is Dead?!
It's too difficult. I'll have a think. Exit Music would definitely be in there. The Gloaming would not!
"Subterranean Homesick Blues"?
surely there's enough Radiohead to fill a best of, without having to stick Dylan songs on there as well.
They brought back 'Nude'
kicking and screaming from it's pre-OK Computer days and then got it down both live and on record heart/brain/groin meltingly beautifully.
It's about time someone reminded the buggers that 'Lift' is still in limbo and needs some lovin'.
Here's Mine:
1) Fake Plastic Trees
2) Just
3) Street Spirit (Fade Out)
4) Let Down

13) 2 + 2 = 5 (The Lukewarm.)
14) There There. (The Boney King of Nowhere.)
15) A Wolf at the Door (It Girl. Rag Doll.)
I really wanted to include "Exit Music (For a Film)"-- amongst others-- but, alas, narrowing Radiohead's entire EMI career down to a mere 15 tracks is very difficult indeed.
As has already been said, in reality, it'll almost certainly be a singles compilation. How sad. But, hey, it'll introduce a lot of people to Radiohead, so it's not all *that* bad.
these songs, mabe shuffle the order somewhat...
1. Morning Bell
2. Black Star
3. Let Down
4. How to disappear completely

hidden bonus b-side : if it's best b-side people will want talk show host...
but i like a bit of killer cars (acoustic), young and idealistic
assuming every album needs to be represented by at least one song
this is the definitive best fifteen songs given that criteria in their best running order...
1 - Airbag
2 - The Bends
3 - Paranoid Android
4 - Just
5 - My Iron Lung

just reading through the others...
I'm absolutely shocked that not everyone has included Airbag, possibly the best alternative pop song both musically, and melodically, ever written.
here here
and that's without even saying how it's one of the greatest openers ever
As if
Creep won't be on it
This...

2. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi
3. Punch Up At A Wedding
4. Idioteque

I agree with badgertastic,
there's some lovely shiny nuggets lurking in the early b-sides. 'Coke Babies', 'Million Dollar Question', 'Stupid Car', 'Killer Cars', 'Maquilladora' (although the live version was better), 'Banana Co' - I'd love to hear all of them again. And the Punk RockTM version of 'Thinking About You' from the Drill EP is good for a chortle.
Wow,
I thought I was the only person who thought that Sulk and Let Down were their best songs. :-D
wot no In Rainbows tracks?
e.g Arpeggi/Weird Fishes?
airbag only features once above?
Obviously tosh then.
fuck it
1) 2+2=5
2) Let Down
3) The Bends

the live acoustic version of killer cars kicking around is the best version, awesome song, a b-side collection would be ace.
