REIGNS
"Pastoral electronica" they say. We both agree and DiSagree... this is instrumental music that can touch the depths of a soul as easily as it can have the listener in goosebumps, fearing for their very safety. Unsettling samples sit uneasily alongside sublime folk-cum-electronica-styled ambience, the overall effect being one of fight-or-flee confusion but also of absolute pleasure.
"Very cool" says The Wire.

VENUS ELIXIR
From Cardiff comes a group of immense potential, delivering thick walls of My Bloody Valentine noise scorched with Sonic Youth's approach to melody, all topped by a flame of androgyny floating through the vocals.
Venus Elixir

MESAPLEX
From the ashes of Meanwhile, Back in Communist Russia comes a computer-rupturing, 80s-fringe post-rock electronica shebang. Some might compare them to Joy Division if said band had ever signed to Warp. Some, however, might not.
Mesaplex

COMANECHI
“…Comanechi are a scuzzy two piece that are capable of launching an assault of sonic goodness that will please your soul no end. It's immediate, primal and quite beautiful. It's an overdriven and feedback drenched early 80s Sonic Youth or Huggy Bear with as much energy and passion as in their prime.”
So says roughtrade.com.
Comanechi

As if that wasn't enough, expect DiS's resident drunken DJs Mike (me) and Colin (him) playing dumb punk rock and startling noisecore nonsense. And some McFly, obviously.

Nearest tube (fairly obvious) is Notting Hill Gate.
First band on at 5.
But get in early to hear Colin and I mess about, eh?
Nice.

VENUS ELIXIR, MESAPLEX, COMANECHI

Bloody hell, did just try and find the bands with the most unpronounceable names, or is this some kind of viking gathering?

Hmm, might come though.

venus and elixir are everyday words and mesaplex doesn't seem too baffling.

i do take the point of unorthodox band names though.

Re: Find us in the matinee - DiS presents FREE music for your weekend

Mesaplex sounds a bit like Metroplex, an old Transformer.
Um.
That's it.

Find us in the matinee - DiS presents FREE music for your weekend

wasn't metroplex the big ass one?

he was great.

maybe its just me that finds those names confusing.

words are hard...

Re: Find us in the matinee - DiS presents FREE music for your weekend

Yes.
The toy changed into a city and a giant tank.
Awesome.
But I broke the wheels off.

Re: Find us in the matinee - DiS presents FREE music for your weekend

I broke a lot of toys, especially the turtles ones. I had a plastic sewer.... nice.

I always thought the transformers in their "robots in disguise" form, always looked like robots, or really badly designed cars. Maybe I was just too much of a cynical child.

Anyway this is completely irrelevant now, sorry.

Re: Find us in the matinee - DiS presents FREE music for your weekend

You only say that cos they said it on that top 100 cartoons t'other night!
Transformers rule.
Jazz looked shit hot as a toy.

Re: Find us in the matinee - DiS presents FREE music for your weekend

I only saw the start and the end of that show, and so completely missed that part, and all the other cartoons I like. i.e. thundercats.

Who said it? Tell me it wasn't Jimmy Carr!

Re: Find us in the matinee - DiS presents FREE music for your weekend

Some loser reckoned Transformers sucked.
Um, hello? The Movie pisses all over the Thundercats' effort!
And I like Thundercats.
Blah blah bollocks.
I never had Jazz... always wanted him.
My best one was probably Smokescreen or something like that - one of the cars. He was kick ass.

Re: Find us in the matinee - DiS presents FREE music for your weekend

Transformers didn't suck, but I'm still sceptical of the car like-ness

Since when do movies matter? Anyway, the Turtles movie shits all over those.. maybe.... not....

Thundercats had a better theme tune, and errr that's what counts.

I just heard that anyone who doesn't go to this is both ugly AND dead.

Re: Find us in the matinee - DiS presents FREE mus

"I just heard that anyone who doesn't go to this is both ugly AND dead."

So madge from neighbours isn't coming then?

Find us in the matinee - DiS presents FREE music for your weekend

Sorry to bring the thread round to Trnasformers again but I just had to say man if you DID have jazz then you wouldn't have doubted their car likeness. 'Cuz HE looked like a car.

I never had a transformer but my mate had 'em all....spoilt fucker.

Re: Find us in the matinee - DiS presents FREE mus

Well, I may well be ugly but I am alive and I did go. And Comanechi were bloody great. Go see them.

Re: Find us in the matinee - DiS presents FREE music for your weekend

I always wanted the Shockwave toy, in fact I'd almost be tempted still if I saw it for £10,

It'd make a change from second hand clothes and CD's to fill the vacuum
