There is a current force apparent in stadium rock that emerged nigh on four years ago. Despite splitting the vote among the rock community, *Hundred Reasons *do indeed now seem to be here to stay and with some gravitas. Tonight they have brought riffs carved from the finest granite, poetry worthy of your epitaph inscribed with opulent and obscure harmonies and a stage show to satisfy the masses without ebbing into parody.
Maturity is something that is expected upon the liberation of your second record and this is manifested here in their live performance. As an embryo, *Hundred Reasons *were strong-minded in their desire to all be seen as equals in the band and the sharing of vocal duties has gone a long way to supporting that claim. However, there was never an explicit political agenda behind their evident character.
It used to be a wholly self-indulgent affair; baiting the crowd with hedonistic entrance music and stylised equipment displaying their ubiquitous insignia. Now they appear onstage with their apparatus swathed with sarcastic idioms conveying their ideas of class and conflict. They have grown up.
There is no radical musical departure here as songs old and new merge into one another with the defiance of a band with little to prove. The wonderful songwriting within ‘Shatterproof is not a Challenge’ has allowed a perfect balance for the live show. There is no disparity or difficulty and that makes for a remarkably exhilarating experience.
Ignore the backward caricatures and insipid blandness that otherwise purport to be the greatest artists of this time and instead turn hither. Hundred Reasons are our finest example of British rock and you will pray that they continue to glimmer for many more moons.

Senses Fail reminded me of the used or maybe finch, they were alright but dispite getting the crowd going with 187 (?) they seemed to thrash madly with little effect.
Biffy Clyro - worst bass-mix ive ever heard, although when it balanced out a bit more it gave them a heavier edge. they played some new songs too, one of them had a guitar bit that sounded rather like Karma Police before getting louder. they seemed to be screaming and shouting more than other times ive seen them too, but then that might be because they crammed their short set with all their hardest songs.
Hundred Reasons - very good, a bit predictable, but who goes to see H*R to hear 8 and a half minute prog-rock reworkings of b-sides? they played stuff off both albums as well as Ep1 and Ep2. there was one problem with their set , DRUNKEN F**KING LOUTS who were there to fight in the pit . . . as you all know H*R fans are mostly teenagers and about 50/50 female too , so when some 6ft 30odd year old starts throwing his weight around people got hurt.....ever seen a 12year old girl get punched in the head by a grown man ? its a horrible sight, these were the kind of guys who are normally seen ruining the festival going experience for "regular gig goers" you know the kind. one of the punched me full in the face as well causing me to miss 4 songs too, git.
back to H*R though, theyre playing was tight, and they pulled all the right moves...perfect sing-along for falter...stunning rendition of the classic remmus...blinding (literally) closing silver...and some great versions of new songs like harmony and makeshift (complete with grandaddy-esque projected backdrop)

***** if you include the fact that i got to hang with colin, larry and a roadie during the day. then colin recognised me and came over to talk with me and my mate before the show - even though we were right by the venue no one walking passed realised it was colin !
Re: Hundred Reasons
And one last thing, exactly what was with Radioheads 2+2=5 on the drumkit and Manics quotes spliced all over the place?????

Hundred Reasons
2 + 2 = 5 and the many other quotes appearing on the amps/screens are all taken from Orwells Nineteen Eighty-four and if you havent read it you should. Its probably the most important english novel of the 20th century. X

er.. What does that mean? Could you rephrase it a little better so its coherent please. Im sure your opinion is right, I just dont understand what your saying.
Re: Hundred Reasons
it got sorted out during the next track and biffy went on to be really good - good enough to convert my anti-biffy mate.
i wasnt trying to be smart it was a comment on the fact that the bass mix really was murky and over powering when they came on or at least thats what me and my mates thought. thats all, plus what the point in making it personal....ya c*** ;)

Come to think of it, I wonder if he actually checked he'd reviewed the gig before he sent the review. My editor would not have printed this.
