With new bassist, Kim, perfecting Span as a band (rather than the Joff, Jarle… and the other two, as before), they’re back in [almost] full health and on better form than ever before.

Stacks of airplay on various music television stations has set ablaze under a rocket that has been waiting years to explode; a rocket so packed with adrenaline fuelled kinetic energy that it has the potential to shoot off with a bang that will implode every last eardrum in the country. And the kids know it. OH do they know it.

Alcopops are hungrily passed around groups of 5; eyes glinting with adoration and excitement as four gaunt mid-tour figures take to the stage. The band belt it out, check-listing the rock’n’roll clichés and giving an unflinching nod in the direction of the latest and greatest as they go. Inside a room vibrating with sound conjuring images of everyone from Aerosmith to AC/DC, but with a quirkier bubble frilled edge, a hundred pubescent bodies tear and collide, hurtling in all directions.

This is the audience Span have been playing to for some time, but whose presence has been lacking; an audience to play putty in their hands, honest enough to remember how to have fun and to move to music they love; an uninhibited rabble whose energy and fun-loving mentality competes with that of the band themselves. And it ain’t just the kids.

This has been, what you might call Span’s “break through tour”, but it’s what I’d call their “fucking shattered into razor-edged slices of dynamite tour”… or something…

the london date was similarly excellent... nice to see this band packing out a room the way they should!

Span

yup...they were great. London gig was mad sold out, could've sold it out twice I reckon, people on the door had to chuck the guest list away over an hour before Span came on. It was ace, Kill Kenada also very great, Bloc Party ok. NME... hello wake up, you've picked the wrong band (again)

Span

Great lil review, yes, kim just gives the band a whole new dynamic and pounding of young energy.

The London night was fab, nice one guys.

Re: Span

If they did chuck the guestlist I'm so glad that I did take notice of ur advice in getting there super early!!! I wanted to see the supports anyway, I feel I was in the minority of people who enjoyed bloc party. I was in a dancy mood anyway...

Re: Span

I don't think NME's "picked the wrong band".
Kill Kenada were pretty average and trying too hard.

Span

Seems ages since the Liverpool gig now. Now the album has actually been released I hope the band will be able to step up to some bigger tours. Imagine if they could get on one of those Chili Peppers gigs! Playing to that many people would really help them get their message across.

Span

Saw Span for the second time last week in Manchester - top gig. They are just what we need to combat the endless barage of bands with 'boys that shout' fronting them. Love the album!!! Can't wait to see them get bigger & better. They are gonna be massive!!!!

Span

ye gods! i can't believe that the tour is over already! i was looking forward to it for aaaages and now it's all over! Wow! What a ride! Aldershot and Bristol were superb! I only wish I could have made it to London....sounds like it was a mint night! yay Span! When magazines that haven't rated them yet start to wake up to the idea that they are a bit behind the times the better....Span are one of the best bands around! They will rule the world in no time soon!!!! Love you guys!!!

Span

the london gig was amazing, kill kenada were also great, i didnt like bloc party that much but hell i was only there for one band. im suprised span werent given the carling academy 2 isnt of the bar, they might not have sold it out but it would have filled up pretty well.
