I have a love/hate relationship with this band.

On first contact with their album, Gotham, I was in two minds about their loose punk funk sound, similarity to The Rapture and with the "Made In New York" tag.

I lived with the album for a long time before suddenly I realised that I should let the preconceptions go, and just give in to the political groove, shake my head and viibbbee.....

As venues go, I would not necessarily choose to visit this one to witness a full on disco punk party, but tonight the juice is flowing. Percussion is provided by the people, as feet are stamping and the cowbells are handed out off stage by the (presumably part-time dairy farmer) percussionist onstage. Old classics sound like they are just that, and they rub shoulders with soon to be dancefloor favourites like Party Crashers.

It's true Radio 4 beam out from their own little scene alongside !!! and the aformentioned Rapture, but each has their own little aside to add. These guys plough a little political furrow alongside their Giuliani-checking townspeople, and to me that says New York is a funky town nowadays, and where better to spread the love than in the secret heart of Islington...?

Let's Partycrash with them, and let loose to the vibe like the heaving and grooving audience in the Carling Academy.

I was there, and although the songs were perfectly executed, it was only at the end -'dance to the underground' when the crowd really got going. i like the funkyness of this band, but to be honest the songs all merged into each other

Re: Radio 4

The sound was piss awful, like they were playing in a sleeping bag, until that is, like you say, 'dance to the underground', 'twas like someone had given band and soundman a sharp kick to the gonads and asked them to please wake up and stop twatting about wasting everybody's time...the remainder of the set was duly full-on new wave disco party anthem stuff...

I saw them at trash and they were pretty good, it was a perfect venue for them to play at.
