When every man and his canine trawled up to Manchester last September to watch a miriad of hopeless bands play hopeless tunes, the feeling was that there was nothing left; rock n'roll had gone to the dogs. Now, we learn, rock n'roll has actually gone to the Dogs.

So, when this band who are kicking up a fuss with all the right people, step up onstage, we stare a little harder and cross our arms with a little more firmness. We're cynical little bastards, really. Their case is not helped by a clean and well-kept club venue like 93 Feet East - this is not rock n'roll. It's spacious, well lit, and therefore unsettling; we want sparkling musical grime, not sparkling grime-free floorboards.

Fortunately, Dogs cater for those who hanker after ever-so slightly mucky sharp and direct rn'r. The five piece stand behind their instruments, allowing them to ricochet tunes around the room, seemingly unable to stop themselves. Their mild appearance certainly doesn't give suggestion that it's them who're leading this new wave of assault, so we must assume that someone's sprinkled rock dust across the six-strings. Not a heavy powdering, mind, but enough to make the rock grime sparkle brighter than the light fittings.

With a frontman rocking the post-Style Council Wellah look (minus a good twenty years, naturally) and a resolute sense of Englishness about it all, there's a feeling of this is what you'd get if the Strokes played cricket. A googlie in all respects. It's not quite there yet, the band miss a Jonny Borrell, Nick Valensi or Carl Barrat, but until someone develops a stage swagger to match the rock swing, we'll happily keep chasing these Dogs round the estate. Not yet the mutt's nuts, but certainly no dog's dinner.

DOGS

Saw the gig in manchester which is mentioned in the review. They were fucking amazing. English Strokes? Not so sure.... they kicked its arse much harder than The Strokes for me!

Dogs!

amazing, gorgeous, sexy dogs! we love you!!!

Re: Dogs!

this is the same Dogs that played the Colour bar a few months ago?
they were fucking awful.

dunno

but I saw them at 93ft east after hearing good things and they were absolutely fantastic. very british sounding (which is good isn't it, we are in england after all!), heard a bit of american influence in there as well - the strokes, pixies being the obvious ones. they were really good on stage and got the crowd going, def worth seeing.

dogs

Heard they share the same manager as Razorlight so my expectations were pretty high when i saw their ITC gig. Luckily for me they exceeded all that and were probably better than Razorlight. Different...but just, better!
Really surprised they haven't been picked up yet by a major but i'll chew my foot off if they're not gracing the cover (or at least the centre-pages!) of NME by this time next year.

Dogs

I saw them at Barfly last night. They are f**king incredible...how come i've never heard of em before?*@*?

Anyone know where to get there stuff? I've checked Amazon and HMV but can't find anything. Help.

Re: Dogs

They are still young, girl.
About to sign The Big Deal (Island, snatch)
Then you will be able to hear them.

Dogs

Word has it you can her a live session on March 30th. On Tom Robbinsons bbc radio 6 music <digital> show. 8-9 ish. Word also has it , that it was blinding. word

Re: Dogs!

i thought dogs were amazing! i saw them when they supported Razorlight on Friday and they were so nice after the gig too...i had to remind myself that being a groupie is unacceptable in this day and age and so i shouldnt throw myself at the lead guitarist

Re: Dogs!

The guitarist is super energetic and a little of kilter with the lazy singer John-Paul. I saw them with Razorlight and can't say i'm converted although they were spared a bottling unlike the awful-bar-two-songs Duke Spirit.

What is the guitarist called coincidentally. Did you wait around for the bands to leave??? That's groupie!

Dogs

i saw dogs yesterday at the shed in leicester, but not these dogs, a big fluffy one lke a rabbit. bye
