Ok, I missed the first couple of songs from Taproot's set, but that doesn't matter. After hearing rave reviews of their album I expected something great, but no, after I heard a few songs I hated them. Tonight was no exception, I wanted them to be great, but they weren't. The singer asked the audience if they were "fucked up," most of the audience cheered. Its nu-metal, man... and I just don't get it.
Linkin Park... Well. When the roadie's took down Taproot's banner and revealed Linkin Park's there was a huge cheer from the crowd. That kinda set the tone for their 'triumphant' gig. It kinda felt as if people actually liked them. Oh dear god no. I don't want to be overly negative here. But Linkin Park only have one or two songs at the most, when they kicked in I was mildly impressed. Their overall sound was much, much better than Taproot. But after a few songs it got really boring. They're a bit too reflective and sentimental for me. Its kinda hard to explain what I mean, but its a bit cheesy. Which is never good, especially when its unintentional.
The Deftones know how to rock, even in the toilet-esque SECC they manage to rock. What sets them apart from the other two bands is their ability to construct a brilliant set. I know that Deftones have the advantage of having three albums to pick their songs from. But the Deftones could play a brilliant set from their first album alone. That's something that Taproot and Linkin Park cant do. The Deftones have continually served us with three reliable and solid albums. None of them had a single hint of cheese. The Deftones blew Linkin Park and Taproot off the stage. They started with 'Be Quiet And Drive' and finished with 'Headup' All the songs in between were brilliant. Take my word for it.
