Har Mar Superstar

Edit this event

As you probably know, Har Mar Superstar has been having it large over at Manumission in Ibiza. It seems that the hot weather and the party attitude of the island suits the small funkster in the smaller thong, his performances morphing from mere gigs into spectacles within the space of one hour. But hey, Ibiza is a magic island right? It’s bound to be different here in the UK. For instance, here in Nottingham at the Home Taping is Killing Music night, we’ve not got that ‘holiday’ vibe that makes us act crazy and not really pay attention to what music we lose ourselves to?

Well, thanks to it being the hottest day of the year, plus a damn fine music policy courtesy of the Home Taping DJs, the atmosphere isn’t one of a holiday party, but the best holiday party you will have ever been to.

Har Mar knows this, and the minute he takes to the stage, in his “I am the fucking best” vest, it takes all of three seconds of 'Power Lunch' to turn the dancefloor into an absolute frenzy. Look over to the left!! There’s a cross between Marilyn Manson and Karen O moshing; look to the right, there’s Don Johnson’s stylistically challenged brother swaying his head left to right, either doing the elephant walk or looking for Tubbs. Turn to the back and all you can see is people with their jaws to the floor and their asses shaking manically, in the middle of the room is my girlfriend who’s so into the gig she’s acting as if she’s in a bump and grind booty bounce video threatening to burn a whole in my jeans, and of course, up onstage there’s Har Mar Superstar, the curator of this dancefloor carnage.

His set is short, sharp, and to the point. Har Mar reminds us time and time again that he is the fucking best, and believe me, he’s not far wrong. How can he not be when he’s slaying the floor with some funky old school breaks such as 'Cry 4 Help', going gospel on our asses with new single 'Brothers and Sisters', having the audacity to cover Stevie Wonder’s 'Sir Duke' AND hitting all the high notes in the process, or simply just blasting out 'You Can Feel Me' in its entirety. Har Mar came to us from a party island with nothing more than the right attitude, the right style and the right sounds, and that was all that was needed to turn this mere gig into a spectacle.

And so when Har Mar left, his presence was still all around us. The thirty or so mainly female stage invaders who had found their funk buttons switched firmly on, as had us down on the dancefloor, decided to hang around and party hard to the sounds of the Home Taping DJs who did a great job in sustaining the energy levels that Har Mar superstar had set during his jaw dropping set, a mean feat indeed, but one that was pretty much done with top notch style!
