The Vaults

Edit this event

Hiss! Who are these scraggy-haired chancers before my eyes? Singer thinkin' he's God's gift, prancin' about strikin' rock poses. Woo woo. This is The Vaults, who appear to be Bury St. Edmonds’ answer to The Datsuns with a few AC/DC-cum-Winnebago Deal style riffs here 'n' there. The stand-offish band let Beaz Harper do his frontman thang and after a slow start it appears The Vaults have a degree of mightiness in some of those songs. Yeah, some nice guitar work. Oooh, nice bassline there, mister. And so on.

DiS does some chin-stroking back in the fluorescent-lit side of Metro - central London's current-favourite stinkydive - and decides that The Vaults are rather good indeed.

But then, when the last band of the night come on, DiS remembers which unsigned band is currently pissing on the rest from a great height at the moment round the capital's toilet circuit. Welcome Ludes; excuse me for using over-used words like "charismatic" and "flamboyant", as Ludes have this in spades. The good-looking south London 20-somethings can seemingly, on the most part, do no wrong. "All style and no content," however, is one crit which made DiS scowl in disagreement and place a banana skin under the feet of the non-believer, with hilarious results. Ho ho. With Ludes, you have the band Bobby Gilespie thought he was in during Primal Scream's slightly-dodgy 'Give Out But Don't Give Up' phase of aping Stones grooves and Jagger movements.

Despite a couple of minor guitar-tuning/string-breaking problems and singer David Ashby finding the summer heat getting to him a bit, their brand of rhythm'n'blooooze with odd sea shanty moments and reggae grooves will swing them over to be Your New Favourite Band. Either that, or you'll really, really, fucking hate them. With this being your humble scribe's fourth Ludes Live Experience, words to songs are being remembered and sung-along with. Yeah, I love this band, me. Ludes' anticipated signing of a big, fat record deal is surely drawing closer. The Libertines should be shitting themselves.

Ludes + The Vaults - London Metro

Your write up on Ludes just proves you have no taste in music. There are much better unsigned bands doing the rounds at the moment.
Maybe you should go and watch them instead of keep going to see the same band over and over again.

Re: Ludes + The Vaults - London Metro

And you have just proven that you are a bit of a dickhead, considering the unhealthily-huge amount of gigs I go AND promote.

Re: Ludes + The Vaults - London Metro

Yes, I probably am a dickhead but at least I have taste in music. Look around at some of the other unsigned bands and I think you will agree with me that there are much better bands out there than Ludes. That probably deserve a mention more.

Re: Ludes + The Vaults - London Metro

Why not show us your 'taste' in music then.

Re: Ludes + The Vaults - London Metro

You Say there are ' much better unsigned bands' out there but you can't even name one. I'm sure they'd get reviewed if they whipped up a storm the way ludes do so stop moaning. P.S. are you currently unsigned Afro Man? Did you get dropped after "'Cause I Got High"?
Fool.

Re: Ludes + The Vaults - London Metro

Firstly I was Afro Man long before the guy with the hit "because I got High"
Secondly here is some unsigned bands that I like.
The Fades
Strawberry Blondes
Whiteman Kamikaze
Depon Eye
Three Ways West
Metro Riots
Acacia Avenue
I didnt mean for this to turn into a slanging match I just think that there are better unsigned bands out there. I guess at the end of the day we are all entitled to our opinions and I just felt the above bands needed to be mentioned. :) I apologise if I caused offence.

Re: Ludes + The Vaults - London Metro

he said White Man Kamikaze
he's alright boys, leave him be
WMK album review incoming shortly

Ludes + electric six

Ludes have been added as the support act to Electric Six at Brighton Concorde on June 30th.

Luvverly.

Re: Ludes + The Vaults - London Metro

I have seen four of those bands and none of them r as good as Ludes but you're right - it's down to individual taste. I just got pissed off when you said I have "no taste" in music, as I obviously just have DIFFERENT taste to yourself.
Anyway, I made that initial comment partially to get a reaction so I suppose it worked. :-P
Let's all have a group hug.

Re: Ludes + electric six

Lovely yes. But unfortunatly its sold out so we will have to wait for your review. Unless you can blag us a couple of tickets that is. ;)

Re: Ludes + electric six

you chancer!

don't think i'm going to the gig now.

Re: Ludes + electric six

Well I hope someone from DIS is going. This is one gig that musn't be missed. And definately worthy of A DIS review. Guess I'll have to keep checking Ebay. :)

Re: Ludes + electric six

Ludes have Chris Morris as their drummer - this can only be a good thing...AND the Dick Valentine looks a bit like Chris Morris so there you go...

Re: Ludes + electric six

Not THAT Chris Morris! ;)

But I agree with you about the Dick Valentine thing now that I think about it...

Re: Ludes + electric six

Imagine how good it would be if THAT Chris Morris did play in Ludes!...Dick does look very similar to Chris Morris but try explaining who and what Chris Morris does/is to an American...

Re: Ludes + electric six

well he certainly looks like Chris Morris as Morris did 'presenting' 'The Day To Day'.
it's that slicked back hair thing.
yes it is.
