The Vaults

Junkbox

Edit this event

Junkbox are rocking the stage. Their DIY approach is breaking shambolic wind in the faces of the gathered masses for the umpteenth Artrocker extravaganza. An audience of excited and excitable people are desperately vying for space in this cramped and seedy feeling underground box-room. Reminiscent of the Cramps and Jon Spencer, the band are attitude over ability, meaning over melody. It sits very well in this context.

John Peel favourites, The Vaults manage to gear up the crowd into a sweaty mass, snarling and spitting their energetic hybrid of the Hives and Black Sabbath at anyone who can't escape the melee.

They manage to maintain this level for most of the time they hold the stage, throwing instant classics like 'Lady Hell' and 'She Loves' (the new single) in amongst harder and rockier material which elicits a fist in the air approach from what are normally "too cool" kids.

The Vaults might have come too late to ride the crest of the 'The' band boom, but with a little more of the harder-edge RAWK and they might just escape being dragged into that particular musical cul-de-sac.
