Bugger. The bastards did nay tell me the first band was on at 7 o’clock. Bugger. Missed Douglas. Bugger missed 10 minutes of Audiovent as well. Bugger.
Ah well, *Audiovent *are just Incubus cash-in/rip-offs, aren’t they? They are to be shunned at every opportunity, surely. Their big bros are doing well so let’s release an album? Not so. While it is always going to be impossible to shy away from the similarities, the _differences _are glaringly obvious. Audiovent have clearly taken their influences from the more elderly school of rock ‘n’ roll. Think classic *70s rock *and you will automatically realise the underpinnings of Audiovent. Add to that some audaciously alluring hooks and the soul-suffused voice of a Boyd (c’mon, it’s his brother for crying out loud - course they sound alike) and you have Audiovent. They have that idiosyncratically American crowd-bating ritual that The British love to hate, yet rise to all the same: you can’t help yourself. You’d _love _me to slag this band off. I refuse.
If Audiovent look out of place on this billing, it’s because Glassjaw *have sadly had to cancel. Many here tonight, myself included, were looking forward to seeing them. One felt that Audiovent did little to appease the crowd tonight and it was a blessing when *The Movielife *took the stage. The NJ crew took their =EmO= hardcore punk blend to the two thousand here tonight and battered them with it. It was a truly magnificent performance tainted _only _by a lack of a cover of Coldplay’s last single _‘In My Place’_*. That song could’ve rocked the house down but they played but the first four bars. I was well looking forward to it as well. Bastards.
If the pit for Movielife was that big, then the ‘Prophets pit was _surely _going to engulf the remainder of the Academy. Almost. Actually no, not at all. It was about the same size. It was clear from this that this show sold out due to the tremendous supports that were lined up. Glassjaw would have brought a formidable squad in as they haven’t toured these shores for a couple of years now and The Movielife are ever-expanding their fanbase after some Class A shows earlier in the year.
LostProphets, tonight, seemed just to be going through the motions of success. They love having the big stage. They love having the big crowds. They love having the big sound. But they _do _seem to be getting bored. Ultimately there was a distinct lack of new songs. Hopefully this signals the end of the current touring saga and they’re going to take some time out to write some new stuff. They did enough to satisfy, that’s for sure. They would have had to have done very, _very _little up there to have left people unhappy. It’s just seeming too easy for them at the moment.
