Miss:Spelt Yoof

Miss:Spelt Yoof, it would seem, have been around for years. Not that many people have heard of them - but nonetheless they've been hammering away for a good while in and around the peculiarly promising musical breeding ground that is Bury St Edmonds. As a live band they're excellent. We're informed that they arrived late tonight and had no time to soundcheck; with this in mind they do a grand job, with a deliciously dirty and aggressive sound that namechecks every important metal and hip-hop band of the past ten years. However therein lies the problem. They sound great live, but it's someone else's sound. They adeptly interlace pummelling guitars with unfussy sampling to great effect in some places, but their set has RATM/Deftones/Raging Speedhorn written all over it in big inky black marker pen. They're likeable and do what they do with a sense of ease, and if they can inject their own individual, creative spark into their songs they may well stand a good chance but at this stage it's too easy to categorise them in amongst every nu-metal band who's never changed anything.
