The Horrors
The Horrors are Southend-spawned but London-based goth-y-punks: a little Eighties Matchbox, a little Cramps. You get the deal, aye.
They are known as:
FARIS BADWAN - VOCALS
TOMETHY FURSE - DANELECTRO LONGHORN BASS
JOSHUA VON GRIMM - FENDER JAGUAR
COFFIN JOE - BANGS THE DRUMS
SPIDER WEBB - VOX CONTINENTAL ORGAN
Those aren't names!
»Cage The Elephant
Kentucky punk-funkers»
Horse Feathers
Folksy sorts from Portland, Oregon.
Horse Feathers are:
Justin Ringle: vocals, guitar, banjo
Peter Broderick: violin, banjo, mandolin, cello, etc
The James Taylor Quartet
Purveyors of the finest Hammond laden jazz/funk the James Taylor Quartet are currently working on their 19th studio album.»
A Hawk And A Hacksaw
Jeremy Barnes of the seemingly disbanded Neutral Milk Hotel is the genius behind this scintillating project.
Two members, yes; many an instrument, yes. At the live show, Barnes alone has his beloved accordian close to his chest at all times, but uses the rest of his body (including a hat with bells attached and a drumstick protruding from the right hand side) to rotate between cymbal, gong, bass drum, and bongo. Quite a spectacle.
This is complicated by Heather Trost, dilligently playing her violin and creating a feeling of revolution, of shantydom, but of sadness too. Country songs from the '50s are covered, sad recitals of children going to war, but their music on record and live is largely instrumental.

Jeremy Warmsley
Jeremy Warmsley lives in London and started making electronic music with songs in them in January 2005. He is currently putting out records with the help of the lovely people at Transgressive Records. He lives in London and is half-French.
A songwriter since the age of seventeen, he had an epiphany in Jan 05, realised all the music he'd ever made up till then bored him, and started again from scratch. Since then his music has encompassed a curious mixture of the new and the old, the traditional and the atypical, all things archaic or experimental. He insists on self-producing all his songs, only bringing in other musicians to sing backing vocals.
Jeremy's live appearances are wildly unpredictable; in the past six months he has played as many times with his seven-piece backing band the LMNOPs (including laptop-ist and trombone section) as he has on his own. Recent gigs (including a tour with Regina Spektor) have seen him ably assisted by pianist TOM ROGERSON, Jeremy singing and switching between guitar, piano and percussion.
Having put out a single in June 05 and an EP in November 05, he is preparing to release his next EP, Other People's Secrets. With contributions from ADAM BEACH (also of Optimist Club) on bass, TOM ROGERSON on piano, MATT INGRAM on drums (all members of the LMNOPs), as well as a string quartet and brass section, it will be his first record to feature musicians other than himself. It is out on Transgressive on April 10th.
»Lights
Formed in 2003, Lights are:
Andrew Future - vocals
Courtenay Purcell - piano, synths
Ralph Taylor - drums, percussion
They sound a lot like Coldplay, which is a bit funny because they're about the only influential band not listed on their myspaz profile. Perhaps they'll sell 4,094,837 records per second if a major snap them up.

Wild Beasts
Hayden - guitar/vocals
Benny - guitar
Tom - bass/vocals
Bert - percussion/vocals
Wild Beasts being of the modern, being of the renaissance, being baggy pantsed, being tight pantsed, being in a scene and being in a place.
So we bent our backs and leaned hard into our chores, like an old slugger working the ring, the furious fist of fate swung his swing and we took the lot - full on the sweet spot.
»The King Blues
Hackney quartet playing slightly-stoned dub in the following way:
Jonny Fox/Itch - vocals/ukulele
Jamie Jazz - vocals/guitar
Fruitbag - vocals/guitar
Johnny Rich - bass
Kid Harpoon
British solo artist.»
Ipso Facto
Ipso Facto are Rosalie Cunningham (vocals, guitar), Cherish Kaya (keys), Victoria Smith (drums) and Samantha Valentine (bass). T
hey play a monochrome psychedelica. Everything is taut black and white; guitars sound like they’re being played through straitjackets, the organ lines like slowly snapping ice. Though it’s something more than a Horrors-esque revivalism of dark garage-pop; Ipso Facto posses a cutting edge of melody and melancholy whilst most bands struggle with the crux of their own conviction.

It Hugs Back
- Matthew - vocals, guitar
- Paul - bass
- Dimitri - drums
With barely a handful of gigs under their young belts, It Hugs Back have received praise from all corners, including NME ("Kent could soon produce it's very own Bright Eyes") as well as eccstatic support from Xfm for their demos.
Their youthfulness is showcased through the beautifully naive music they perform. Hushed vocal melodies and jangling, Wilco-esque guitars combine to astonishing effect. Debut single 'Lights In The Trees' is due for release this Autumn.
Jay Jay Pistolet
Singer/songwriter with a fragile voice and a collection of tender songs about life.»
Mumford And Sons
Musically Mumford And Sons keep close to the roots of folk and bluegrass, but cleverly translate the songs into a wider world of the popular. Not in the throw away sense of the word, in the true sense of the word.
The band formed at the tail end of 2007, when Marcus Mumford met banjo player Winston Marshall at the infamous West London folkster hangout Bosun’s Locker on King’s Road. The pair discovered a shared joy of bluegrass and country music, and quickly added Ben Lovett and Ted Dwane into the cocktails that brings to life the lyrics Mumford had been penning.

Chris T-T
New biography, October 2005:
Chris T-T is not a man to keep his opinions to himself. And when he voices them, it most often results in someone being offended, outraged or otherwise aghast. His carefully crafted songs about suicide bombers, serial killers, sellotape and sex often get members of his audience riled, and though there have been a few frightening threats, he's never yet been punched.
As The Guardian says, "The genius of Chris T-T's songwriting is his ability to humanise even the most outlandish conceits. They seem instead like brilliant ideas that no-one else could've come up with."
T-T's gift is to tackle life's grand themes, such as war, money, love, sex, and death, and transform them into highly personal, and highly emotional, songs. "I'm an overweight, middle class, white, comfortable, English songwriter," he says. "I've never felt any of these things through personal experience. I've never been bombed, I've never had an Israeli tank driven over me. The only way one can do it is to get into the mindset of individuals."
The press, meanwhile, can’t stop raving about T-T. The Sunday Times chose his fourth album, London Is Sinking, as Album of the Year, calling it a "Fantastically intricate masterpiece... utterly indispensable" and compared him to William Blake, while The Independent called him "some hybrid of Bragg and Cocker", the Big Issue said, "Decidedly off-kilter and all the better for it, eccentrics like Chris T-T should be heartily saluted" and the NME raved, “Capital-centric folk wonder… A record that’s funny, touching and smart enough that even people whose telephone number doesn’t start with 020 will treasure it.”
His new songs have already earned him an earful from angry old ladies in hunting villages, indie crowds in Essex and a few outraged liberals at the Leftfield stage during Glastonbury Festival. With two tours scheduled for this autumn – one supporting Brighton indie super-group Brakes, followed by his own headline tour in November – he would do well to practice dodging punches and hurled beer bottles if he wants to continue his never-been-hit roll.
Should he return home unscathed, then T-T plans to finally record the third piece of the London trilogy, Capital. "In my head I was finishing off by destroying London. In my fantasy version there's the army on the streets and curfew at 6pm and you've got thousands of civilian deaths." Of course, after two attacks on London, that's not at all how things have turned out. "That's my job now," he says "to pull back my flights of fancy into something real for the final London record".»
Joe Gideon And The Shark
Gideon plucks six strings, dreams stories and sings. Kid sister Viva Shark plonks, stomps and honks. They made two albums as Bikini Atoll released on Bella Union.
»Psychotic Reaction
"The Psychotic Reaction come from Whitstable, Kent, where they try to bring truth, beauty and noise terrorism to a tiny local music scene of erratic quality, venturing to London as often as their D-reg Polo allows."
