Lily Allen
Singing and songwriting daughter of actor Keith Allen, Lily Allen hit the headlines in the summer of 2006 when her debut single, 'Smile', raced to number one. Her first long-player, Alright, Still, reached number two in the album chart.
Regularly outspoken and often amusing, Allen's remarks regarding celebrity culture and her alleged pop peers are always worthy of attentions.

Doves
- Jimi Goodwin - vocals, bass, guitar
- Jez Williams - guitar, keyboards
- Andy Williams - drums
The last recordings as Sub Sub, featuring guest vocalists Bernard Sumner from New Order and Tricky, and tracks like the expansive and decidedly un-disco 'Firesuite' all but demanded a name change mindful of a rockier and more experimental direction. And if 'Ain't No Love' was a right turn for the hell of it, then 1998's 'Cedar EP' saw them back on course - displaying intentions and influences they had carried with them most of their lives. Three EPs lovingly packaged and released on their own Casino label ('Cedar EP' October '98, 'Sea Song' May '99 and 'Here It Comes' October '99) garnered a raft of glowing reviews. Doves signed to Heavenly Recordings and consolidated with the eerie 'The Cedar Room' in March 2000.
Lost Souls, a debut LP released at the same time, was a genuine thing of beauty, wrought from hard bitten experience. Nobody could have planned for the attention it brought them. "Do we plan things? No!!" says Jimi. Since then they have toured and talked and toured some more. Unafraid of hard graft, they made time to record wherever and whenever. The Last Broacast (2002), a record which realises all expectations, is the unbelievably assured result. These are early days but, save a new LP from a miraculously resurrected Jimi Hendrix, we are talking about a record that clearly deserves early reservation in those end of year lists. "We hope people will hear more optimism in there than last time. We can only write about what happens and what has happened has been good so some of that is starting to shine through in the writing," says Andy.

65daysofstatic
65daysofstatic is currently Joe Fro, Paul Wolinski, Rob Jones and Simon Wright; Feedle, Iain Armstrong and Gareth Hughes are former members.
The band are primarily instrumental, using beats and glitches alongside crunched guitars and hardcore drums.
65days originally formed, allegedly, to try and write music to fit the unreleased and little known John Carpenter flick Stealth Bomber starring Kurt Russell. Set over "65 Days of Static", a period of time after some unknown global infrastructre and communications breakdown, it also gave 65 their name.
Apparently.

Friendly Fries
Friendly Fires are comprised of Ed Mac, Jack Savidge and Edd Gibson.
Formed out of the ashes of ‘First Day Back’, the St Albans hardcore band, they formed while still at school. Friendly Fires make razor-sharp post-punk that burns through the memories of all the dismal, skinny jeaned ‘80s revivalists you’ve been hearing these past few years. Sounding brittle, knotty and urgent, Friendly Fires are the real deal. With no fat or padding on them at all, their songs possess an elegant sparseness.
As guitarist Edd Gibson notes: “The hardest thing I think is to know what to leave out, to know when something is enough.” But amongst all the stripped-back twists, there are also moments full of deep, blessed-out melodies. “I love lush, massive, tingly chords; the My Bloody Valentine sound,” says bassist and singer Ed MacFarlane.

The Horrors
The Horrors are Southend-spawned but London-based goth-y-punks: a little Eighties Matchbox, a little Cramps. You get the deal, aye.
They are known as:
FARIS BADWAN - VOCALS
TOMETHY FURSE - DANELECTRO LONGHORN BASS
JOSHUA VON GRIMM - FENDER JAGUAR
COFFIN JOE - BANGS THE DRUMS
SPIDER WEBB - VOX CONTINENTAL ORGAN
Those aren't names!

Efterklang
Efterklang is:
Mads Brauer - electronics
Casper Clausen - vocals/multi-instrumentalist
Rune Molgaard - piano
Thomas Husmer - drums/bass
Rasmus Stolberg - guitar/multi-instrumentalist
Efterklang's music defies easy categorisation. It's two parts Sigur Ros, one part Björk and a dozen dashes of Radiohead; it's serene and shocking, orchestral and experimental. All bets are off, but it's always beautiful.
Dirty Projectors
Dirty Projectors is the name Dave Longstreth chose after releasing his first album The Graceful Fallen Mango under his own name. Playing with Brian Mcomber (drums); Amber Coffman (singing, guitar) and Angel Deradoorian (singing, bass), he has released 4 albums The Glad Fact ( 2003 Western Vinyl ); slaves's graves of ballads ( 2003 Western Vinyl ); The Getty Address ( 2005 Western Vinyl )and Rise above ( 2007 dead oceans ) as well as an EP new attitude and an internet-only compilation of early works Morning Better Last!.
A creative artist, Dirty Projectors mixes classical orchestration with samples, electronic and strange vocals.

Pole, known as Stefan Betke to his mum, has spent much of the late 90s mapping out minimalist, otherworldly, glitch-dub soundscapes. On a series of self-titled records that were alternately visionary, captivating and deathly dull, his music and influence eventually spread as far as a recent Levi’s ad and the new Radiohead album.»

»Cagedbaby
The son of wholesome hippies, Tom Gandey was raised amidst boats and pianos. His two brothers now run their father's fishmonger business, but Tom decided to follow more in the footsteps of the distaff side. "All my mum's family are classical musicians and my grandfather was a conductor of the Royal Philharmonic, he smiles. When I was young I thought I might combine both of the family passions and become a rockstar yachtsman. You know, like Simon le Bon."
A gifted pianist, Tom played piano at primary school, progressing when adolescence hit to stints in local bands. Dabbing with experiemental over-dubbings of film soundtracks and messing around with production soon followed, and the acid-house superhero meets New Romantic. Neil Tennant meets Fatboy Slim Cagedbaby sound began to take shape.
Snapped up by Southern Fried records after being scouted at a party, Cagedbaby released his first single shortly afterwards. His debut album, Cagedbaby Will See You Now, is out on 08/08/2005.»

Wave Machines is an alternative pop group formed in Liverpool in 2007. Labelled 'toy shop pop' (NME) and likened to 'Hot Chip dipped in Hot Chocolate' (The Guardian), the band's debut album, Wave If You're Really There, is out on Neapolitan Records on June 15.

It Hugs Back
- Matthew - vocals, guitar
- Paul - bass
- Dimitri - drums
With barely a handful of gigs under their young belts, It Hugs Back have received praise from all corners, including NME ("Kent could soon produce it's very own Bright Eyes") as well as eccstatic support from Xfm for their demos.
Their youthfulness is showcased through the beautifully naive music they perform. Hushed vocal melodies and jangling, Wilco-esque guitars combine to astonishing effect. Debut single 'Lights In The Trees' is due for release this Autumn.
Kitty, Daisy & Lewis
The band members of Kitty, Daisy and Lewis are: Kitty, Daisy, Lewis, Graeme and Ingrid. It started out as just Kitty, Daisy and Lewis performing with various guitar players providing a rhythm. After a while, we felt that it most worked playing with our dad (Graeme) on acoustic guitar and then later our mum (Ingrid) on double bass. We played live instore at the Pure Groove record shop in Clerkenwell on Tuesday 29th July 2008 in support of our album which was their album of the week. Lewis and Kitty also showed the Pure Groove guys around our home studio and 78 collection. »
Napoleon IIIrd
Napoleon IIIrd is a highly original musician from Leeds.
He makes a unique kind of leftfield pop from piles of antique organs and car-boot keyboards, gentle strummed chords and driving glitched beats. His live show also features a reel-to-reel tape player, sometimes through surround-sound speakers, and a strobing acoustic guitar. Following his first national tour with Applicants, Evenings, Bishi and The Open Mouths in late 2005, he has quickly gained a mighty live reputation. He has since played all sorts of support slots with bands such as Hot Chip, Clor, The Mystery Jets, Forward, Russia! and The Research.
Napoleon has released 2 ltd. edition EPs, the first on Leeds label Dance To The Radio, the second with London-based indie Brainlove Records. His brilliant Forward, Russia! remixes have gained him extensive radio play and an army of new admirers. His debut album, "In Debt To:", is available from iTunes or eMusic now, and on CD soon.
George Pringle
Oxford-based George Pringle began writing music when she was 16. She pinched her older brother’s guitar and taught herself bar chords. Her brother ditched the guitar to become a DJ. “I don’t see the point of making music when I’m not doing anything new and other people can do it so much better than me. I enjoy listening to them far more,” he said.
George began recording demos on a broken two-deck Karaoke machine at home during the school holidays. She also pinched French Oral examination tape recorders whilst at boarding school and recorded late at night in the school hall, using the assembly microphone. She played alone, and in bands, before abandoning guitar for Garage band music software, which she acquired at 21.
Her brother’s words stuck with her. When she was a teenager, he played her LCD Soundsystem “Losing My Edge”. It sounded fresh and knowing: “I hear that you and your band have sold your guitars and bought turntables. I hear that you and your band have sold your turntables and bought guitars.” Tony Wilson’s music cycles swirled through her head in the backseat of a Fiat Punto, somewhere in the middle of the Italian countryside. She decided that the wa-wa-waah whinging over guitar was not going to create anything new, but she was: A few years later she started talking.
Now 22, George has become a “Diseuse” (a female performer of monologues). She makes electronic music on her iBook G4 (which she calls Truman) and recites poetry over the tracks. Her demos have been described as "just plain charming!" by Music Week.
George gigs Karaoke-style, with a view to someday incorporating projections of her photo journals into her live shows. She can be seen at several festivals and warm-up shows in the lead-up to her debut single later this summer.

Dinosaur Pile Up
Dinosaur Pile-Up lives because... Matt Bigland plays guitar whilst singing, Tom Dornford-May plays bass guitar, and Steve Wilson plays drums... they ride in a 6 seater burning inferno that goes by the name of 'truck delorevan bigland' and travel at molten hyper-speeds. The name of the band was birthed when a young Matt watched King Kong... he subsequently wrote some kick ass songs, disappeared for a while, and returned with the mark of the mighty riff on the back of his arm - thereby marking the beginning of the almighty 'Pile-Up...

- Mira Dulok - vocals
- Mina Dulok - organ

Girl-band The Duloks played their first gig less than six months ago at a fancy dress jocks and nerds themed party, their costumes stuck and the trio have been wearing shorts and knee socks ever since.
A repertoire of pure fun their songs include 'Bad Vegetarian' and 'Help! I'm Turning Into Mick Jagger!' all this over sexy synths and blistering drum beats.
