Hot Hot Heat are, apparently, here to save us. They’ve even travelled from Canada to do this. Presumably HHH are disgusted with our musical tastes so they want to help us. But that’s half the problem: how can we saved by HHH if they’re beginning to be the problem themselves?
The band bound onstage with all the enthusiasm of an excitable puppy then lead singer Steve Bays proceeds to act like one for the entire gig. He can’t seem to stay still for more than two seconds. He moves to the left of the stage, then to the right, then to the left… It’s like a game of tennis but without the excitement.
Hot Hot Heat have, seemingly, put no effort into the setlist, the current album is played but in the exact order it appears on the CD. ‘Naked in the City Again’ which is followed quickly by ‘No, Not Now’, then ’Get in or Get Out’. The kids are well and truly warmed up by this point. They’ve not seen anything like this since the boy in the other class fell in a muddy puddle last term. Tonight, though, is different. Tonight is real entertainment.
It’s not looking good for the Canadians. We’re now nearing the end of tonight’s entertainment and not much saving has been done. Well, at least HHH have helped us. They’ve helped us realise that at £12 for their album, we’re being truly done.
