Halo

It's truly exciting to be going to a new music event in Reading, tonight _ The Fez_ club is playing host to local bands Turner and Scarlet Soho and Bristol based Sony S2 signings Halo. As the anticipation builds I find my way to the balcony bar from where I can just see the stage. Marvellous, comfort and entertainment.

As Turner take the stage they fill the room with some soaring melodies with well constructed songs such as Airtight and Suburban Supreme. The dynamics of these are excellent with each section of each song carefully thought out. Turner certainly have similarities to the Super Fury Animals with catchy tunes that build to epic crescendos. They didn't change my world but they certainly started my evening.

Following a swift strawberry milkshake (note to the Fez: please don't use UHT milk in these) Scarlet Soho appear as if by well, not magic, more by homage to Marc Almond. It's funny to say that Scarlet Soho are unique, but they are, in that they are a New Romantic band that aren't on a comeback tour, oh no, they're brand new. It's as if one night they broke in to Human Leagues place, stole lots of 80's backing tracks making up new words along the way. Not a drummer in sight and more on the backing track than was being played! Excellent and totally entertaining.

Which is probably the only thing they have in common with Halo (being entertaining that is) who were more energetic than mice in a pro plus stockpile. Just about to tour with Cooper Temple Clause, they seem to be relishing there own headliner with some distinctly keen fans at the front. Halo rip roar through their set with superb tightness and excellent harmonies. The perfect band for the summer, expect to see Halo ripping up a festival near you this year!

Overall a good night with what can best be described and an ecletic mix of bands.
