It's been four years since Babes in Toyland split up; four years that have seen their songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Kat Bjelland form two other bands, neither leaving the same impact that Babes in Toyland made.
The void that the band's split created has yet to be filled, so, Bjelland has reformed Babes in Toyland, with a new bassist and drummer, and they are currently undergoing their first UK tour in years.
Babes in Toyland still have a large fanbase, and for this packed out gig, the fanbase remained a happy one. It's always a risky move changing the majority of the band members, but it doesn't all have to go "Bucks Fizz" awful. In fact this change in personnel works for the better. Tonight's gig was far more exciting than the last time I saw them on the Nemesisters tour.
Many of the classics were played, 'Bruise Violet', 'Sweet 69', as well as some great album tracks such as 'Laugh My Head Off', 'Swamp Thing', and 'He's My Thing'. Kat Bjelland's vocals are still as agressive as ever, and the energy the band played with had the same enthusiasm as that of a band on the road for the very first time.
It seems the new line-up has invigorated Babes in Toyland, and being as the void their split left hasn't been filled, maybe they'll treat us to some new material?
