Youthmovies

Oxford-based prog-punks Youthmovies - formerly Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies - is (2007 model):

Al English (guitar/vocals)
Graeme Murray (drums/vocals)
Stephen Hammond (bass/keys)
Andrew Mears (vocals/guitar)
Sam Scott (trumpet/flugelhorn/organ)

In their younger days Youthmovies (MySpace here) liked nothing better than getting their chests out at shows. Mmmm. They have since realised that too much flesh can be a bad thing. Truth.

The roots of the band were laid in 2002; Hope of the States' Simon Jones was initially brought in on drums, replaced by Graeme in 2004. Trumpet player Sam Scott, also of Jonquil, joined full-time in 2006.

Some people wrote some things...

"Youthmovies take you on a musical journey like no other, taking elements of DC hardcore and wrapping it in the shimmering glow of bands like Do Make Say Think. They are true believers in the power of music - not as a commodity, but as a way of truly stirring the soul. Amazing stuff." - Rocksound

"Youthmovies are clever, original - and sadistically unpredictable." - Kerrang!

"Youthmovies sound like absolutely bugger-all else out there... No band in the world comes close to matching their thirst for the deranged; nobody can hold a torch to their genre-splicing glory. Prefixes come and go in their world - post, prog, whatever - but none stick. Only one simple word can successfully clamp itself to this eight-legged beast of a band as it sprints into previously unexplored musical territories: brilliant." - DrownedinSound.com

"Like a post-hardcore brainstorming session on where music should go next." - Steve Lamacq

"A genuinely scary art-metal racket." - The Independent

Dave Turncrantz (drums, ex-Riddle Of Steel).

Some official blurb:

The band only formed in late 2004, after the break-up of Dakota/Dakota, the math-rock band in which guitarist Mike Sullivan and bassist Colin DeKuiper played. When drummer Dave Turncrantz moved to Chicago after he quit his old band, Riddle Of Steel, Russian Circles cohered into something formidable. When the band started playing out, word of mouth spread quickly and continues to do so. Russian Circles habitually steal the show from headliners, even though they don't play the most accessible music. First, they're instrumental, which for many people is an instant strike against them. Second, they play an intense amalgam of punk, metal, indie rock and even prog -- not exactly the kind of stuff aired on your local alt-rock station, or college station for that matter. But people who don't even like instrumental bands still rush Russian Circles' merch table after their sets, buying an average of 40 demos per show.

DJ IQuitMySpace

Hailing from London-via-Bangladesh-via-Newbury Park-via-Redbridge, DJ IQuitMySpace has been a staple of the London alcohol circuit over the past few years.

More recently, he has become an infamous feature on the internet scene. Even more recently, two (2) of his former friends on popular networking website, MySpace, posted MySpace bulletins as they were concerned about his disappearance from said site.

DJ IQuitMySpace had failed to inform them that he had quit MySpace. His plan to MySpace message them all after he had quit had a fatal flaw.

You will see him soon without his Welsh twin (pictured, to the right of the Manic DJing Maestro) behind the Classic Rock Cueing Machine playing a heady mixture of all 3 types of music: classic rock, heavy metal and punk rock.
