After many attempts at seeing both the Pattern and Econoline I’ve finally managed to make both in one night. And Econoline open proceedings in style. In fact here is a band who have it right, don’t try to fake charisma because it doesn’t work, play what you feel and it will. Econoline have the material and are just generally mesmerising.
I’d been led to believe Ikara Colt were terrible and this so wasn’t true because they aren’t. Shut your eyes and they’re a very good band. However, it would be slightly more encouraging if it looked like the lead singer didn’t have a million other things he’d rather be doing. Or is this supposed to add an air of mystery and cool?
Then the headliners the Pattern take to stage playing the last date of their UK tour. And once again we have a band that aren’t bad but are hyped as being saviours of rock and roll. Despite comparisons you may hear, this band is nothing like the dreaded King Adora. The set is dare I say it enjoyable but mostly just like listening to their 'Immediately' album in random order, with lead singer Chris shaking his arse like a cross between Mick Jaggar and Ricky Martin (he best stop this soon or he’ll do himself an injury). But despite these efforts to be intense, rocking and goddamn sexy something falls flat. They aren’t bad, but Econoline have already stolen the night from under them. All I can hope for now is that someone else will realise this and rectify the situation without delay.
