God Is In The TV presents.. at London Pleasure Unit, Sat 08 Apr

Review by Tom Edwards

Oh my lord, this is something. Guitars whizzing past like Fireblades in the night; drums coming on like motorboats smashing into rocks; words spat out so fast it takes a few seconds just to get the joke.»

Paper Cuts

  • Ross Cummins - vocals
  • Rob Dix - bass
  • Ben Thornton - guitar
  • Toby Barber - drums
  • Tom Edwards - keyboards
  • Arec Koundarjian - bass (left 2006)

Lunatic frontman commands arsenal of distorted guitar and bass through sea of pounding drums. Pop songs, played fast and loud, reminiscent of The Buzzcocks meeting Moving Units by way of Refused and ATD-I. With a demo already featured on Smalltown America's PSB#1 compilation and a small handful of gigs under their belt, they are allready building a reputation for being one of the loudest and most energetic live bands around.

The International Karate Plus

Sklav is a family man. He likes nothing better than a spot of DiY on the weekend. He likes to drive his Capri and during the week he tries not to crash. His retro mindset keeps him in sideboards and flares.

Carter finds flats. No rented accomodation can evade his gaze. If its got four walls and a roof and you want to live in it, and if you can find him, he can find it. Carter is not contactable by phone.

Arnold breaks computers. For this he is paid handsomely and if your computer is already broken he will tell you so and no further costs will be incurred. For this he has earned the moniker 'Honest Arnold.'

Why 'International'? Because Chris is a Greek. Why 'Karate'? Because Richie likes to dress up. What's the 'Plus'? Mike's iron leg. And 'The' makes it sound proper like. 'The International Karate Plus' have arrived together through a series of misadventures, some of you may know about, others you may not, but none will be discussed here. Together they sweat in Cardiff, mainly because it's been quite warm of late but also because they've been playing some quite energetic music. To facilitate this, coming together, some people may have been hurt, children may have cried, let's hope it's worth it, only time will tell.

The formula's simple. Richie's love of playing the guitar in disguise, (+) Mike's ability to play the bass whilst stating the obvious, (X) Chris's need to beat the drums while consummating his incestuous relationship with 101 Cardiff bands (=) The IK+ music and if it stays that easy maybe some gigs.

Lots of love The IK+.

The Boyfriends

The Boyfriends are:

  • Martin Wallace - singing
  • Richard Adderley - guitar
  • David Barnett - bass
  • Paddy Pulzer - drums

Releases: "No Tomorrow" on new Angular compilation, "Rip Off Your Labels".

NME said: "highlight of the new cross compilation, rip off your labels, this is shimmering smiths-pop with eloquence and bite."»

The Bridge Gang

Notoriously, The Bridge Gang came into existence on August the 27th 2004, apparently spawned from insomniac José Ross' unexplained urge to 'spend his twenties shouting'. Old friends Lucy Drynan and Bret Bolton were approached and persuaded to learn bass and drums respectively and soon enough the sound was born. A power trio.

The 'Gang then unleashed themselves onto the London toilet circuit with 'furious yet loving abandon'. Before long they were picking up some very flattering reviews, making lots of new friends and causing all the pretty girls and boys suck their cheeks in extra hard.

You can usually find The Bridge Gang discussing the merits of all things pop at their London HQ or in The Bridge Gang van after sound check and before the show. Feel free to knock on the windows and jump in. You're most welcome; they'll even drop you off at the nearest tube if you ask nicely. »

Nakeru

OJ Lim - vocals, guitars, keys
Frank Newbold - vocals, bass
Tom Fug - drums, percussion
Paul Raphael - guitars

Story so far...
Nakeru came together in the cold winter of 2002. Four musicians of diverse musical taste, their goal as a band was to create music that a) rocked the house and b) was catchy as fuck. After two years of intense songwriting and sporadic gigs, Nakeru finally developed a style that fit like a glove. Musically inspired by both American and British indie bands and tied together with vocal harmonies recalling the "call-and-response" of early Motown and the sweet blend of the likes of Simon and Garfunkel, Nakeru recall many of your favourite rock groups, but louder and better. Nakeru are going to be huge. Watch this space!

Untitled Musical Project

"A scathing molten hot head busting cauldron of low strung rumbling bass lines, psychotic vocals and ear shredding needle like ricocheting riff hysteria that’s been laced up and despatched with the sole intent of kicking both you and your speakers out of their comfort zone while assuming a brash rough ‘n’ ready gang mentality that recalls a seriously pissed off Beastie Boys exchanging blows with Foreheads in a Fishtank." LosingToday.com

"If you've been missing Mclusky as much as we have then this'll be right up your alley... with the same big buzzing bass and razor-wire screamvocals, and a smattering of wit." Playlouder
