Some people like to rock. Some people like to roll. Some people like to squeeze out every frustrated emotion in their bodies with a passion bordering on the psychotic, while still looking presentable enough to introduce to your parents. Scott Rinning, nervously skinny, like a baby Elvis Costello, and with a voice six times the size of his body, fits the latter category.
Maybe it’s the effect of growing up in the wilds of the Highlands, but collectively the The Cinematics have the kinetic restlessness of a shaken-up can of Irn Bru. They shower out fashionably angular songs in the anthemic minor chord mould, filled with unexpected, impatient melodic twists.
Let’s hope that musical boat has not already set sail as it could do with them on board later to read the maps.
