Fresh from the joys of SXSW, prepare yourselves for a slew of 'hot' American acts floating their boats across the Atlantic and dropping anchor in the UK for a promotional blitz... alongside the Be Your Own Pets, Feeble Weiners and Clear Statics of this world are Brooklyn-based but Californian originated trio We Are Scientists.

Tonight sees them aboard the good ship Bar Academy following on from a promotional run that's seen them pop up at the BBC and Queens of Noize in the days previous. With little introduction, the band, who've just signed a large deal in the States, power into the sort of quirky power indie pop set that gave Hot Hot Heat a good name. It's very much a case of traditional infectious college rock with a modern twist, which means there's a plethora of yelps and jerks thrown in amongst their tuneful batterings. Singer Keith Murray * is complete with a lopsided haircut, and the triple harmonies are completed via their unhip seventies-styled bassist (looking like a member of ultra nerds Lovin' Spoonful*) Chris Cain and machine-gunning drummer **Michael Tapper **.

It's a short and fairly impressive set to the massed record company ranks who make up the majority of the crowd - and though not quite yet world beaters, there's more than enough to suggest in the likes of 'Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt', with its chorus of "it's my body/it's your body/ I won't tell anybody/ if you want to use my body / go for it_" that they'll be back in England before long.
