The Vichy Government, The Violets, The Resistance at The Portland Arms, Rochester, Thu 10 Mar
REPEA*T hosts an Angular Records night of angular music. Much fun is had by all.»
About the venue
The Portland Arms
The back room at The Portland is basically a sitting room without the sofas etc. with a stage. All very homely, and good sound now they've updated the PA.
»About the artists
The Violets
The Violets formed on a car bonnet at Elephant & Castle during the last longhotsummer. They are fuel-led racers, driving to a rose stained shutter. Stealer of time, driver of life. They prowl and jitter the stage with menace, grace, chemistry and fragility. Look no further, the best in punk-delicate.»
The Vichy Government
The Vichy Government press spoken-word provocative philosophy into infantile casio macabre. Endlessly quotable, they snap protests about Cliché Guevara across Kate Moss's tits or creepily purr Make love to the cam-er-a, c'mon like a deb-u-tante. They have been daubed with a reputation for antagonistic, anti-consensous pop and their agit-cabaret live show has become a thing of legend.
Manics biographer Simon Price has hailed them as the most offensive band in Britain. They have supported Scissor Sisters and they have featured on both Angular Records compilations. Their acerbic karaoke can be probed into at length on their debut album Carrion Camping, which will be available as soon as any record company is gullible enough to release it.»
The Resistance
With the aid of light shows, dead media recording equipment, cigarettes and gin, The Resistance make electronic, repetitive, psychedelic rock music.
Their new single, 'Stevie Nicks' b/w 'Snowflakes Falling on the International Dateline', is out 27/10/08 on R*E*P*E*A*T Records.
