Mystery Jets

Edit this event

Some things:

1) Mystery Jets have TWO drummers, one of whom has big hair and is also the lead singer. He is called Blaine.

2) Blaine’s dad plays guitar in the band. Hmm, could this start a new trend?

3) I still have their demo from 3-4 years ago when Blaine’s voice hadn’t broken, and naturally I’ll be selling it to the highest bidder as soon as the band are famous.

Mystery Jets are, let’s face it, a bit bloody weird. This is the sound of psychedelia and prog being properly booted up the bottom into the 21st century for all the freaks ‘n’ geeks, but they don’t use all the wobbly synth samples and bleeps just to show how ‘futuristic’ they are. This is, most definitely, a Good Thing.

At times it might seem overly pretentious and calculated (check those robotic ‘dance’ moves, woo woo) and the songs occasionally drag their heels when they have the potential to push things to their utmost limits; to push it so far you think “this is sick”. But the thing is, nobody could manufacture a band like this except themselves. Nobody else is that twisted.

Be afraid.

Mystery Jets

I saw these supporting Bloc Party in Portsmouth and I have to say, they were the first new band I'd seen in a long, long time that had me getting all exciting and ranting at 100mph in a very high pitched voice for a veeeeeeeeery long time. The pots and pans, THE POTS AND PANS.

Mystery Jets

also very impressed having seen these guys at the den of iniquity at the 12 bar, very preoggressive and passionate

Re: Mystery Jets

whoa, dont forgot the weird lil circle with a plastic "skin" (in the drum sense) that he sort of hits with one of those dodgy not-quite-proper-drumsticks you find in school music rooms. the things you use with xylophones.

and the metal fosters things.

i think he possibly has the best drum kit ever.

full stop. slash. dot. slash. etc.

Mystery Jets

I still have bad memories from their performance at the aforementioned Bloc Party gig. Could it one of those either love or hate things?

Mystery Jets

FINALLY.

Mystery Jets

Yes. Sorry about that.

Re: Mystery Jets

In Hull I was hit in the knee by one of the pots blaine decided to throw into the crowd + i actually joked on the night whether 'that old guy' was actually his dad...

Re: Mystery Jets

that dodgy collander that we couldnt get a much of a sound out of?

Re: Mystery Jets

I can't remember, didn't pick it up, some guy that looked like one of GLC nicked it. Still gives me a slightly odd claim to fame if they get big.

Mystery Jets

aah the den of iniquity...
there's one this week that I can't get to, what with being in manchester, but you should go. All of you.

any moulettes fans here?
Heard a new song last night that's rather marvellous...
and another one about a brothel-keeping codpiece if I remember correctly. Hoorah!

Re: Mystery Jets
