Never underestimate the power of stage set-up. For amongst the mountainous level of equipment designated to headlining post-everything tornado-chasers 65*daysofstatic stands one man under the moniker Judas Kisses. To see him almost dwarfed by a load of amplifiers highlights the isolation prevalent in his outpourings of disillusionment, and hammers home how it really is only one person making all that noise.

It wouldn’t be an unimaginable revelation if we found out he was a Meanwhile Back In Communist Russia fan, as he mumbles an outsider’s mini-observations on other people’s business during the quiet part of the deal in ‘quiet/loud’. He steps back and unleashes a cutting guitar racket as the drum machine placed beside him pounds out bottom-heavy beats like some sporadic, cynical heartbeat. Which is very promising indeed – we suggest somebody hands him a recording contract, pronto.

    judas kisses is good. 65 were immense that day, so fucking good. possibly the best gig i have ever been to. they have had 2 very recent reviews, so i can understand them not getting one this time round.

    That's the best thing anyone's ever said about me - thankyou!
    It's also pretty good to know that some people do bother to review the support bands as well.

    Just as an addendum to this, I should point out that that was my last gig as Judas Kisses - the name has now changed to The Scarlet Letter Union.

    catch judas kisses/the scarlet letter union at the coast bar this friday night (29/10) along with they don't sleep, eisenhower, and ed gillett.
    the night is free, features art and video, and eat the evidence dj's. the coast bar is on coldharbour lane, by loughborough junction, between brixton and camberwell.
    the 35, 45 and 345 buses all stop outside.
