Paradiso
Info
Beautiful old church situated just off the Leidersplein area in one of the most gorgeous cities in Europe. It's about a 25 minute walk from Central Station, but the trams stop right outside it. Watch out for cyclists going at about 200 miles an hour though; those things are really bad for yer ankles. Two main rooms - the bigger one downstairs has a double balcony and the upstairs room is a proper, sweet sweatbox. Yum.

Cornelius at Amsterdam Paradiso, Mon 13 May
Cornelius doesn’t tour much, but when he does, it’s a big deal. Cornelius likes to put on a show. We’re not talking about your cheesy run of the mill support band that rock, followed by greatest hits and faux equipment trashing. On the tour for the last LP 'Fantasma', the audience were issued»
Art Brut at Amsterdam Paradiso, Sat 13 Nov
Oh dear... someone gave Art Brut passports and they are off to the land of legalised hookers, Van Gogh and soft drugs? Sounds like a partididdlyarty so we sent Joe Shooman to follow them. On an aeroplane and everything, which was all orange and rubbish, a bit like Otto's school bus. Now with wings.»
Andrew Bird at Amsterdam Paradiso, Thu 24 May
The set’s a highly constructed, sometimes senseless but ever interesting feast; a puzzling, dreamy example of how experimental pop music can be if one actually cares about exploring its mealy innards. In every sample and cordial sonic building block, everyone, dancing or not, is mesmerized by Andrew Bird's songs, and how he and his band puts this mess of ideas together in the first place, to fit in such a transcendent way...»
Dinosaur Jr at Amsterdam Paradiso, Wed 27 Jun
Pardon me, but I feel nostalgic, and I am only 24. Seeing Dinosaur Jr a few nights ago was like going back to junior high, where plaid fleece was attractive and getting to second base was my daily goal, one I failed at with razor-sharp precision...»
Crystal Castles at Amsterdam Paradiso, Sun 11 Nov
Crystal Castles, of Toronto, Canada, are a boy/girl duo, whose unique sound vaguely resembles a woman screaming over an eighties v»
Beirut at Amsterdam Paradiso, Thu 15 Nov
Beirut soaks melodic city squares in the sounds of both old and new. While Zach Condon’s blend of contemporary folk music, all things Balkan and waltz hark back to a town festival somewhere deep in Croatia a hundred years ago, the blend is as contemporary as it is historic»
Henry Rollins at Amsterdam Paradiso, Wed 23 Jan
Walking into the Paradiso, I can pick up hints of the Canadian twang and American drawl dotted throughout the crowd. The kids have come a long way for this show, and Henry Rollins does not disappoint»
Patrick Watson at Amsterdam Paradiso, Thu 20 Mar
Now, more than ever, the band are playing regular sold-out shows, and with due right. They seem to be able to command a crowd like no other, leaving us gobsmacked with, what seems like, a simple sleight of hand»
