Corona Capital Festival: DiS does Mexico City

In Depth by Dom Gourlay

Last weekend (13th & 14th October), DiS made the long journey to Mexico City via New York for the third annual Corona Capital music festival since its conception in 2010. Featuring a mixture of internationally acclaimed acts such as Suede, New Order, Franz Ferdinand and Florence & The Machine alongside a selection of up-and-coming Mexican artists, this year's line-up bordered on the stellar side compared to many of its European counterparts. Here's what we had to say about our trans-Atlantic trek to North America...»

Les Eurockéennes (Sunday): The DiS Review

In Depth by Wendy Roby

Les Eurockeennes: A Diary - Day ‘Trois’ On the last day of a festival, especially one in a foreign land, it is customary to feel a little low, a little humdrum. And I am no exception, for I wake on Sunday a little sadface that it will soon be over, »

This Week's Singles: 29/03/10

In Depth by Wendy Roby

Beach House and Django Django win the red rosettes this week, while some predictably harsh words are doled out to Scouting For Girls and any band who decide to ruin Animal Collective's 'My Girls'. Is this what the end of the world sounds like? Don't be silly, everyone, it's only music! »

DiS meets The Drums

In Depth by Dom Gourlay

Brooklyn based four-piece The Drums currently find themselves riding merrily along the crest of a hype-assisted wave. Perhaps unfairly seen as the new decade's answer to The Strokes, their first UK release, the excellent Summertime EP culled together seven songs that borrowed from a host of influences both past and present, and while it would be churlish to herald them as the finished article just yet, their potential is frightening.»

Iceland Airwaves 2009

Iceland Airwaves: The DiS review

In Depth by Vasilis Panagiotopoulos

Madness. This is what you’re in for here at Iceland Airwaves, which has become a yearly pilgrimage for many music enthusiasts, press and industry. Once you’ve been, the chances are that sooner or later you’ll be coming back. Late-night mash-ups, hip crowd, a cryptic language and most importantly an overdose of pretty damn good local and international bands. My recollections are scarce and a crushing hangover is imminent… »

This Week's Singles: 28/09/2009

In Depth by Wendy Roby

Everyone – and I mean everyone is releasing a single this week. So many, that I wanted to use a thoroughly unfair culling method that involved a blindfold, a pointy stick and some glue - or worse, inadvertently lose half my pile down the back of the bin (whoopstheregomyfingers, can't listen to them now, ohdear). Luckily, someone appealed to my better instincts and I did what I am paid to do. Which was to listen to the darned things; ALL FORTY THREE OF THEM. »

DiScover Mixtape #2: The Drums, Neon Indian, The Specific Heats and more

In Depth by Rob Webb

Another week, another DiScover Mixtape... with all this new music, we are really spoiling you (say in a sleazy European accent, liberally smattering zees and vees all over the place).»
