Sonisphere 2011: The DiS Review

In Depth by Dom Gourlay

When Sonisphere first opened its doors to a UK audience in 2009 it was perhaps kind of fitting that it set up camp at Knebworth, the undisputed stately home of Rock.»

A Record Store'll Change Your Life, I Swear By Sean Adams

In Depth by Sean Adams

Tomorrow, as I’m sure you’re aware, is record store day. All week ‘journalists’ and comment box fillers, have been trying to neatly file themselves into two piles. Either you buy everything on 180gram vinyl and have never even dreamed of torrenting an inferior quality MP3 file or you sincerely believe Spotify should be free and sometimes think to yourself they should paying you a wage for the amount of free music you consume. However, things, as always, are not quite as black and white as that, at least not for me. »

Perdu sur la plage: DiS does Les Eurockéennes

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

DiS arrives at Les Eurockéennes , a long-running French festival that takes place in a stunning location on the peninsula of Malsaucy near Belfort, just a hop over the Swiss border. It is very nice here: located on a strip of land between two massive lakes, it sort of has a Latitude-ish size and prettiness. One of the stages is called La Plage and is, if anything, more delightful than that sounds. There are also bands.»

Hove Festival 2009: DiS' highlights

In Depth by Rob Webb

Hove Festival took place on the idyllic island of Tromøy, near Arendal in Norway, last week. DiS was there, and soaked up a glorious four days of sun, sand and bands. If you've not been - and we're hazarding a guess that many of you haven't - then trust us when we say it's an altogether more civilised, sunny alternative to that English festival we've heard so much about these past few days. Here's DiS' highlights. »

DiS is 6! Our 66, part 1

In Depth by Mike Diver

Let the DiScussing begin! We’ve been racking brains – prior to pulverising each other’s – at the DiSopolis these past few weeks to come up with our top 66 albums of the past six years; the very best records to see the light of day during DiS’s lifetime (yes, six years). Arguments have been won and lost, a handful of frankly incredible artists have improbably missed the cut through forgetfulness and space constraints, and we’ve all got quite, quite drunk along the way...»

Label Focus: Roadrunner Records

In Depth by Raziq Rauf

The year has drawn to a close and here at Drowned in Sound, we think it’s nice to reflect on what we’ve enjoyed and who has given us that enjoyment. Roadrunner Records celebrated a quarter of a century as the world’s leading independent underground metal and heavy rock record label and I love Roadrunner Records.»

Raz on The Raz @ Reading

In Depth by Raziq Rauf

Yeah, yeah yeah, Reading Festival. What’s the big deal, huh? Get filthy. Get tired. Get battered. Sing. Watch some bands. Great. It bloody well is, alright!?! Did you love it? Were you even there? I was.
